The Poems Of
Terri Lyn Stanfield
Back Off!

This has gone on
Quite long enough
It stops right now
You're not so tough
You've been hanging
All over him
The whole night long
While light's were dimmed
But he is mine
And I don't share
Oh sure, he flirts
But I don't care
Because I know
That in the end
He'll leave with me
For home again
I'll tell you now
That you ain't got
What it would take
To take my spot
To get to him
You'd have to go
Right through me first
We'd come to blows
And you would not
Be able to
Come out on top
I'd wipe the floor
With your behind
So back off now
And you'll be fine
This man is mine
Though he might play
It's just for fun
What do you say?
Do things have to
Get ugly here?
Or have you heard
Me loud and clear?
It's up to you
You make the call
But I promise
You'll take the fall
I'm used to this
I fight a lot
No one's taking
What I have got
So either move
Or I'll move ya
I've nothing else
To say to ya
So what's it worth
To you, you wench
Cause I won't budge
Even an inch
If I have to
I sure will fight
Be he's leaving
With me tonight

Good Ole Boys

You think you're tough, you know the score
But you don't know what you're in for
You'll play their game, and by the rules
That's been the end of lesser fools
These good ole boys are serious
When you're talking bout game or fish
They have been taught, almost from birth
That how to measure a man's worth
Is by how many points there are
On the antlers mounted so far
Or by the size of their prize bass
Or how many fish they caught last
You city boys don't understand
What this means to a country man
It is a sacred way of life
To the woe of many a wife
It's not how much money you make
When his reputation's at stake
It's their finesse at calling ducks
And whether it is skill or luck
And who can bag the biggest deer
Those are the things that matter here
So if you think that it's a game
Your comprehension is just lame
It's a big part of how your viewed
And your perception seems quite skewed
But if you want to fit in here
You'll shift into good ole boy gear
