The Cross family takes pride in the fact the Cross Farm contains the oldest home (1876) and barn (1876) in Hamilton County as well owning the most acreage (270 acres) of all Centennial farms in Hamilton County.

Additionally, many of the logs from the original log cabin (1856) are still preserved. Pleasant Cross (b.1799, d.1868) and his wife Elmira Stacy acquired the property in 1856. The original log cabin was built shortly thereafter.

The existing home was built in 1876 by his son, Pleasant Marion Cross (1833-1891) (wife Sarah Williams) and their 4 sons. The sons being; John Robert Cross (1859-1922), who was Mayor of McLeansboro (wife Emma Ellis). Gilbert Wiley Cross (1858-1935) (wife Sarah Emily Cates). Elza Marion Cross (1861-1941) (wife Mary Furrison). Pleasant Walter Cross (1857-1925) (wife Jones Chlon).
