I must have been in the ninth grade when I first stumbled upon the character Jesse B. Semple. A black renaissance character in a series of newspaper articles by Langston Hughes. Semple (or sometimes Simple) has some funny and provocative views about relationships, money, race relations, and LIFE.

Charlane is a character I drew one day, sitting at work, waiting for the computer to do it's calculations. A friend of mine that is a writer took one look at her and wrote this Down-Home story.
