This is were you learn a little about my oil field experience. I started in the patch in 1981 in Oklahoma. From there I went to Texas. In those states the rigs were triple derrick meaning when the pipe was triped out and stood back into the derrick it came out 3 joints at a time. Each joint of drill pipe ranges in length from 29' to 33'. From Texas I moved back home to Pennsylvania. It wasn't until 1987 that I got back into the patch around here. The rigs in this area are mostly double derrick. I started with Union Drilling then went to Ipsco drilling. They sent me to Alabama to work on a single derrick there. From there I came back home and went to work for Delta Drilling. I was with them from 1990 to 1994 when they sold out to Neighbors Drilling. They had some screwy rules so I went down the road. I worked 1 day for Ramco Drilling but those guys were more nuts then me. I eventually worked for them again but only after a good friend of mine started drilling for them and needed help. But before then I met up with Bob Hogle who was a share holder in Rose Run Drilling. He also owned the rig I worked on for them. He was acting tool pusher when I started and on day 2 with him he put me to drilling. Along with me out there was one of my best friends who also happens to be my brother in law but is more like a brother. He worked his way upto derrick hand which is right next to driller. Eventually my friend from Ramco was layed off and I asked him to come play on or crew for awhile. Mike agreed and on the 3rd day he  accepted relief drillers position with Rose Run. From there he worked upto daylight driller which is the highest ranking driller on the rig. They say that's mostly cause they know the most about the rig but from my experience it's because they can put up with the tool pusher the longest since that's the time they're normally there the most. Mike eventually took tool pusher position but after a few short months realized it wasn't worth the hassle and went back to drilling daylights. The way the shifts break down out there is different then most people are used to. For one they're called tours ( Most pronounce it tower ). Morning tour is first of the day from 10:30pm to 6:30am. Daylights runs from 6:30am to 2:30pm. Evenings runs from 2:30pm to 10:30pm. Now me not being a morning person always picked either evening tour or morning tour. Didn't have to get up before the crack of noon. It's kinda hard to get people out there and when ya do it's just as hard to get them to stay. Not everyone likes long hard hours with hardly ever a break let alone eat. And you don't stop for the weather. So hot, cold, wet, blizzard you was steady getting it. Most times since it was hard to find help doubles were very common. Normally I worked 16hr days 7 days a week. Made some nice pay days. I hope to beable to get more pics from the Rose Run rig soon and beable to add more to this. O.K. on with the show.
