Delta Drilling Rig#71 |
Here is the next set of pics from this rig. Here you'll see pretty much the rest of the rig and a few pics of me with my kids as I show them around. |

Here is the dog house side of the substructure. The big round red object it the B.O.P.(Blow Out Preventor). This basically when activated stops all flow of air, fluids, and potroleum products from getting to the outside world incase things go bad. As in high output pockets of gas or posion gases. Also you see myself, oldest son, and daughter. Still along time ago. |
This is the other side of the cellar. You can also see the flow line hanging waiting to be connected to the airbody stack which sets ontop of the B.O.P. This flow line is what carries the cuttings, fluids, air, and petroleum products to the blow pit during the drilling process. |

Here is a shot of the other side of the mud tanks. Here you can also see the back portion of the mud pump and part of the 4" line that the fluids are pumped through to connected to the stand pipe that feeds it down hole. Also me and all 3 of my kids. |

Here is a shot of the blow pits. This is were all the cuttings, fluids, and excess petrolem products end up after exiting the flow line during drilling. On the left you can see the mud tanks. In there starts out with brine(heavy water, salt water) and to that is added costic soda ash and starches to make a thick gel like fluid. This is used to hold back the walls of the well untill the 4 1/2" casing is in place. It can also be used to lift large chucks that have fallen loose and has the drill string hung up down hole. |

This shot is more of the back yard. On this particular rig there were 3 air compressors and then the booster. Also you can see someone left the back door to the dog house open. And there's a small glimps of the motor area of the rig. |

Not a very good shot but this is the front corner of the booster. Also the back wall of dog house showing the back steps and the back edge of the rig. |

This shot you can see part of 2 of the air compressors. Also the feller standing there is Steve the derrick hand on the crew I was on there. Not only did he become a good friend but he became a brother-in-law. |

Here's an example of the way dozers are setup. This is a Catapillar D-6 with special setup on the back for lifting and moving heavy objects such as pipe. |
