Jerry was given an honourary membership in the DES after he donated beer to be consumed at the organization's second meeting in 1997. Jerry's honourary membership is an item of controversy within the organisation, since Jerry did not actually attend any meetings and when questioned, wasn't aware he had donated any of the above mentioned beverage. According to Jerry, DES member D.A. Hartloper assisted Jerry in cleaning up following his party by offering to return the empty beer keg. Mr. Hartloper being a meticulous and thorough individual trained in the field of engineering, took it upon himself to ensure that the keg was indeed empty. Upon finding that the keg was not entirely empty, it was subsequently emptied by the two members and by one Big Sid Fontura at the organisations second meeting.
Although no desire was expressed by Sidney (Big Sid) Fontura to become a member of DES, he has been awarded an honourary membership for attending the second meeting. This honourary membership is also with controversy since Big Sid's contribution to the meeting was considered by one member to be a tad boring. However, no mention of the percieved boredom was made to Big Sid. The communicating of such matters was considered unadvisable since Big Sid does play rugby without a helmut and prefers to eat the entire chicken wing including the bones.
Not only has Richard Porter expressed genuine interest in a membership in the DES, but he was made a valuable contribution of managerial anti-anecdotes for the DES Anecdotal Protection Page.
