Yule Rite #2
Prepare the ritual area by marking the boundary of the circle, setting up the Four Quarters and the altar. Perform an altar devotion. Cleanse the area and tools. Ground and center. Perform salutes and cast the circle.

"I conjure ye, O circle of Yule, both radiant and bright; and trace the boundary 'tween the world of man and the realms of light. Be thou cleansed and prepared from rim to center, where the gods invoked may deign to enter. All harm and fear from this place be banned. A circle blessed, within it I stand. Be charged by the powers of the Old Ones! So mote it be!"

Take a small container of water and sprinkle in three pinches of salt. Cup your hands over the incense and bring the smoke to the container. Do this three times, and then pass the container over a fire candle three times. Hold the container in both hands and raise it upwards.

"By earth and air, fire and seas, I do cleanse and consecrate all within thee!"

Set the container aside. The mixture will act as holy water for the rest of the rite. Stand at each direction (North, East, South, and West) and call the Four Guardians. Trace an invoking pentagram after each call.

"North Wind
Chills of ice
Come ye, Boreas
Bring your spice!

"East Wind
Violent with emotion
Come ye, Eurus
Set to motion!

"South Wind
Hot as fire
Come ye, Auster
Never tire!

West Wind
Gentle like fluff
Come ye, Zephyr
Show your stuff!"

Take the holy water and anoint your forehead: top, bottom, right, left, and center. It should be in the shape of an equal-armed cross, in honor of the Four Elements and Akasha. Ground and center again. Draw down on the sun/moon. Then invoke the gods.

"Lady of the moon, earth, and seas; I invite thee into thy sacred circle in the guise of the goddess Ilithyia, Lady of child-birth. Thou art the mother of all! Be with me now!

"Lord of the sun, skies, and fire; I invite thee into thy sacred circle in the guise of the god Hermes, Lord of transition. Thou art the father of all! Be with me now!

"This night I honor the power of Yule, for it is a time of renewal and peace, forgiveness and hope, release and deep physical rest. I allow myself to imagine and dream of the possibilities within the Wheel of the Year. For Yule is the first spoke of the Wheel that marks the conception of the Divine Child, the beginning of the return journey of Sol to our world. Let me help to turn this Wheel! Let me have a hand in the cycle of the world and the mysterious ways of the gods!"

Light three candles prepared especially for this rite, first in the astral and then physically: green, white, and red. Chant repetitively softly:

"The wheel turns, the power burns."

Chant until you are in a trance-like state. Meditate for awhile. After you have completely harmonized yourself, perform the Yule blessing.

"May the Yule candles burn so bright. May all good enter with the light. Prosperity and peace on this earth. I welcome Sol's rebirth. Thirteen moons have waxed and waned, dancing in the starry vault; shining on the frosted lane, days of days draw to a halt. Greet the Hag and bid Her go, farewell to the ancient Crone. Ancient year is running low, bid the Maiden take the throne. Rejoice! Rejoice! It is born! The olden curse is washed away. Shining bright the thirteen moons, shall rise to greet the newborn day. Yule fire blaze! Yule candles burn! As the Year Wheel now dost turn! Blessed be!"

Raising of power and magickal workings may follow. Then a feast of cakes and ale. Ground and center. Perform salutes. Thank the gods. Dismiss the Four Guardians and trace a banishing pentagram after each dismissal.

"Lady of the moon, earth, and seas; in the guise of the goddess Ilithyia, Lady of child-birth. I thank thee for thy presence within this sacred circle. Thou art the mother of all! Hail thee and bid thee well!

"Lord of the sun, skies, and fire; in the guise of the god Hermes, Lord of transition. I thank thee for thy presence within this sacred circle Thou art the father of all! Hail thee and bid thee well!

"West Wind
Zephyr of dusk
Fare thee well
With peace and trust!

"South Wind
Auster of hearth
Fare thee well
A loving part!

"East Wind
Eurus of thought
Fare thee well
Never distraught!

"North Wind
Boreas of cold
Fare thee well
Wind so bold!

In perfect love and perfect trust,
Hail thee and bid thee well!"

Release the circle.

"May the circle be opened, but unbroken. May the peace of the gods be ever in my heart. Merry meet, and merry part, and merry meet again. Blessed be!"

Ground and center. The rite of Yule is completed!
