Background

The maintenance of components of an information system such as a mouse, keyboard, monitor, floppy drive and printer is crucial to the overall function and performance of that system. The documentation of the routine maintenance ensures correct maintenance procedures are followed. These procedures incorporate Occupational Health and Safety guidelines.

 

Requirements

As part of a routine program the workplace client‘s maintenance requirements are determined and performed. You are to carry out the following activities

·        clean computer system components and peripherals;

·        replace and maintain consumables in a peripheral device;

·        maintain peripherals.           

For each of these activities list the main steps needed to perform the activity correctly and state any special equipment that is required or OH&S guidelines that need to be followed.

Examine how consumables are handled and stored. Prepare a document for client on correct handling and storage of consumables as outlined by supplier.

In consultation with the client, prepare a maintenance policy document outlining maintenance activities and troubleshooting techniques.
