Converting between formats

 

 

Graphics software can usually convert different formats by using file conversion programs.

 

 

Digitisers convert printed and other hard copy into graphic bit maps.

 

Scanners have light detectors called charge-coupled devices (CCD). This is an array of light detecting cells.

 

If you want to scan text into a wordprocessor the scanner must have software that recognises letters in different fonts and sizes. This is called Optical Character Recognition (OCR).
