yellow pages & white pages can be purchased on CD ROM. On the internet
international yellow & white pages can be accessed. The Australian White
pages is also linked to the UBD to show where the telephone is located.
Non-computerised
database media is still supplied in the hope that people will look up telephone
numbers first instead of ‘phoning Directory Assistance.
Card
systems have been replaced by “on line” cataloguing.
ILANET
is the Information and Libraries Access Network which is a mailing system
between libraries.
AARNET
is the Australian Academic and Research Network which allows electronics
newsletters and journals to be read.
SCISS
is an on line service that solves any Dewey classification problems.
In
NSW the database holding registration information is called DRIVES. In ACT the
database system is called TRIPS.
