Processing Unit
The CPU is a set of electrical
circuits responsible for controlling and processing data within the computer.
It is the 'brain' of the computer. The CPU, in a personal computer is located
on a silicon chip(IC) on a motherboard or mainboard.
The CPU is made up
of three parts
1.
Control Unit
which co-ordinates the operations of the input, processing, output and storage.
It directs the flow of data.
2.
Arithmetic
logic Unit carries out all the mathematical (+,-,*,/), comparison(eg
<,>,=) and logical (AND,NOT,OR)
3.
Registers are
temporary storage areas. for small amounts of data during processing. They are
accessed faster than primary storage.
