1.4 Storing Data
A file is a
collection of records stored on a secondary storage medium such as a disk.
A hierarchical filing
system stores files in folders or directories. This is the way files are stored
on our computers at school.

Disks need to be
formatted before they can store data.
Tracks and sectors are made so that data can be stored in areas that can
be read according to a plan. CDs are formatted differently to floppy disks.
