Macromedia Dreamweaver is considered by many professionals to be the established choice for web-design software. This software provides the user with a combination of visual layout tools, application development features and code-editing support which enable developers and designers of different skill levels to create appealing standards-based sites. Dreamweaver enables the developer/designer to work graphically, constructing a site by dragging and dropping objects, or to hard code in HTML, complete with Cascading Style Sheets (CSS). The most current version is Macromedia Dreamweaver 8.
Adobe GoLive is an HTML editor from Adobe Systems. It is a complete and powerful program that is targeted at experienced web designers. It is very similar to Dreamweaver and FrontPage and it can create many different code types and save different file types. The most current version is Adobe GoLive CS2.
Microsoft Expression Web Designer software was introduced in December 2006. This program is intended to be a replacement for Microsoft Front Page. This software program is a professional tool that has an easy-to-use interface and toolset with which to create websites that work in a variety of browsers running on multiple operating systems.
Microsoft FrontPage 2003 is a Web site design and management application designed to make it possible for "non-techies" to create websites. It accomplishes this through a user interface which hides the HTML code. It is well integrated with the Microsoft Office Applications Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Photo Editor. Microsoft Front Page has been replaced by Microsoft Expression Web.
Adobe Contribute (formerly Macromedia Contribute) is a software application for editing the content of a website. It is a desktop application allowing a wide variety of people, including "non-techies", within an organization to update web pages by reducing the amount of web design skills necessary for the process. But what's more interesting is that it is possible to "drag" in rich content like Office documents, videos, or audio, and Contribute will automatically do the right thing. The most current version is Adobe Contribute 4. 
Macromedia Fireworks is raster software that was one of the first programs to focus almost exclusively on web graphics. Fireworks 8 allows you to maintain maximum image quality with minimum compression size as you create, edit and optimize images for the web with precise control. You can create animated rollovers and pop-up menus with Fireworks 8�s visual tools. It has editing capabilities with Dreamweaver 8 and Flash Professional 8. The most current version is Macromedia Fireworks 8.
Macromedia Director is a multimedia authoring tool designed to create rich interactive content for both fixed media and the Internet. Director can incorporate photo-quality images, full-screen or long-form digital video, sounds, animation, 3D models, text, hypertext, bitmaps, and Macromedia Flash content. One type of file created by Director can be viewed in a web browser using the Shockwave plugin. These files have a .DCR extension. The most current version is Macromedia Director MX 2004.
