Animation and 3D Software
Many of the vector and raster software programs include animation and 3D features and abilities. However, there are many software programs that are specifically designed to create animation and 3D effects.
Several popular animation and 3D software programs are listed below:
Animation: Master is a 3D character animation package by Hash, Inc. that includes tools for modeling, animating, and rendering. The most current version is Animation: Master 2007.
Blender is a free 3D animation program. It can be used for modeling, uv unwrapping, texturing, rigging, skinning, animating, rendering, particle and other simulating, non-linear editing, compositing, and creating interactive 3D applications. Blender has a robust feature set similar in scope and depth to other high-end 3D software. The most current version is Blender 2.43.
Jasc Animation Shop offers high quality and easy to use creative effects, features, and optimization options for Web designers of all levels. Animation Shop gives you the ability to easily create buttons, banners, and other animations. Corel Corporation acquired Jasc Software and its Paint Shop Pro operations in 2004. The most current version is Animation Shop 3.
Autodesk's Maya is a popular high-end 3D computer graphics and 3D modeling software package. It is often used in the film and TV industry, as well as for computer and video games. Maya is currently the leading animation program for cinema and nearly every studio uses it. It is known as being difficult to learn, but it is possibly the most powerful 3D package. The most current version is Autodesk Maya 8.5.
Macromedia's Flash Professional 8 is the industry's most advanced authoring tool. It enables the design of interactive content in video, graphics, and animation for websites, presentations or mobile content. The most current version is Macromedia's Flash Professional 8.
Shake is an image compositing package used in the post-production industry. Shake is available only for Mac OS X and GNU/Linux. Shake delivers visual effects and digital compositing for film, HD and commercials. It enables complex image processing sequences to be designed through the connection of effects "nodes" in a graphical workflow interface. This type of compositing interface allows great flexibility, including the ability to modify the parameters of an earlier image processing step "in context". Shake has been used in films such as The Lord of the Rings, King Kong, and the Harry Potter movies. This software is owned by Apple Computers. The most current version is Shake 4.1.
Macromedia Director is a multimedia authoring tool designed to create rich interactive content for both fixed media and the Internet. Director can incorporate photo-quality images, full-screen or long-form digital video, sounds, animation, 3D models, text, hypertext, bitmaps, and Macromedia Flash content. One type of file created by Director can be viewed in a web browser using the Shockwave plugin. These files have a .DCR extension. The most current version is Macromedia Director MX 2004.
