The sets in Series 1 were released in June of 1996 in the US. There were six four-horse sets, and three playsets. The four-horse sets were breed related (with the exception of one). Those sets were named: 'American Quarter Horse', 'American Saddlebred', 'Appaloosa', 'Arabian', 'Palomino' and 'Thoroughbred'.

The three playsets were the 'Grand Prix Playset' which included three jumps, three horses and some accesories; the 'Champion Corral Playset', which included two horses, a corral and accesories, and the 'Carousel Cool-Down Playset', with three horses, a hotwalker (device that walks horses after working to cool them down) and accesories.
