PART 29 (PG – Consequences III : Twist of Fate)

She fell. He was tired. He had to get inside soon, he picked her up and carried her to the mansion and laid her out on the table. He had to wait. “Oh love, you’ll wake soon and we’ll be together. Forever.” He wasn’t sure if she had to buried first for it to work, so that night, he dug a hole and placed her there, and covered her over. He needed a person there, he needed someone for her to listen to so she knew where to go. He went to her house that night and opened the door.

            “Oh, Joyce?!”

“Who are you? Oh God!” She said as her glass fell and he grabbed her.

They were back at the mansion and day came. Joyce was tied up. “Where is Buffy?”

“You’ll find out soon enough, she’s going to be so happy to see you.” Night fell and he took Joyce out to where he had buried his love. He pushed her to her knees and stood back.

Minutes passed, an hour passed, two, three and he began to see some dirt moving, and he saw her fingers coming up, then her hand and her arms and she pushed her head out. She pulled herself out of the ground and stood up looking at her mother.

“I got you a present love.”

“Spike, it’s perfect. I’m so tired.”

“You will be for a while, being born is always hard, but it’s worth it. I made sure of that.”

            “Buffy?”

            “Joyce.”

            “What’s going on?”

“Well, I’ve been thinking, you never really liked me anyway, did you, Mom?”

            “Buffy?”

“You know what to do pet, do it, you need your strength.” She looked down at her mothers neck. “Oh and pet, this will the best you ever taste, except for that of a Slayer.”

“Right.” She morphed to her new face and bit down into her mother’s flesh and the blood splashed into her mouth and she drank, she couldn’t get enough.

“STOP IT!” He looked at me, tears and hate in his heart. “Is that really what would happen? Or are you playing with me?”

“Angel, I cannot control what happens, fate has it’s own plan, separate from mine. She twists and changes, this is your wish, not mine.”

            “STOP IT!!!!!!!”

We are in the  cemetery. Buffy and Angel are engaged in a passionate kiss.

“Ahh...” Buffy says as she kissed him and stops. “As much as I hate to say this, we should really go kill bad guys.” She kisses him again.

“It’s late. You should really get home. Hmm?” They kiss.

“What about the Gorches?” They kiss.

“I’ll hunt.” They kiss.

“Really?” She pulls back and smiles. “You’d do that?”

“Not like I have an early day tomorrow.”

“Mm,” they kiss, “true.” They walk, “I still have to go home and fill out my egg diary.”

“Your what?”

“Oh, I told you, that faux parenting gig we’re doing at school. Like I’m really planning to have kids anytime soon. Uh, maybe SOME day, in the future, when ‘'m done having a life, but... right now kids would be just a little too much to deal with.”

“I wouldn’t know. I don’t... Well, you know, I, I can’t.”

“Oh.” She looks away briefly, then back at him. “That’s okay, um... I-I figured there were all sorts of things vampires couldn’t do. You know, like work for the Telephone Company, or volunteer for the Red Cross, or... have little vampires.”

“So you don’t think about the future?”

“No.”

“Never?”

“No.”

“You really don’t care what happens a year from now? Five years from now?”

“Angel, when I look into the future, a-a... all I see is you! All I want is you.”

“I know the feeling.” He reaches down to kiss her. He finds her lips and she responds. They kiss more and more passionately.

PART 30 (PG – Alice & the Rabbit)

She is quiet. She is crying.

“Buffy? Are you okay? Did I hurt you? Did I… did I go too far?”

“Oh, Angel…” she says, fighting back the tears, “It’s just that, that I can hear your heart beating. As long as I live, I’ll never forget the steadiness and the joy of that sound. I’ll never forget.” She puts her head to his chest and presses her ear down. Her hands caresses his stomach.

“Oh.” He smiles and pulls her closer to him. “Buffy, I figure I don’t have to ask you this, but marry me. Let me take this ring and make if official, make you permanently mine.”

“Well… I don’t know… it’s tough being the slayer, I don’t know how we’d pull it off, of course we’ll probably have a few vampires crash the wedding, so I don’t know if it’s really worth all the trouble.”

“Well, we can have a ceremony outside. Say at noon?” He kisses her forehead.

“Oh, that’s right, I hadn’t thought about that. Okay.”

            “Okay what?”

“Of course I’ll marry you, and I have always been yours, Angel. My beloved Angel.”

“You’re wrong, Buffy. It’s you, who is mine.”

“Oh God, angel… an angel.. what is happening? Is it too late?” He asked me.

“He’s… he’s not breathing, oh god, he’s not breathing.” Her head fell onto his chest and she began crying, sobbing, screaming. “Angel? Why did you leave me? You promised me, you promised.”

“BUFFY!” He screamed and a flash of light exploded and illuminated the world around us. I smiled, he had learned well.

She was crying, her head on him. She could barely make the sound out over her crying, but she heard a small whisper, “Buffy…”

“Angel?” She stopped and looked up at him, his eyes were open. He puts his hand up to her and their fingers interlocked. “Angel!” She began crying and just kissed him.

            “Buffy… I…”

“Shhh, don’t talk. Just sit still, I have to get an ambulance.”

She was leaning on him, and it was slightly painful, but no more so the burning feeling that shook him from the inside. “Buffy, I can’t breathe…”

            “Shhh, just be quiet.”

She frantically searched his pockets for his cell phone. She couldn’t find it. Time was running out.

They had been worrying about Buffy, soon after she left, they left too.

            “Oz… let’s go home.”

“You see though, home isn’t really your dorm room to me.”

“I know, but let’s go there, there’s a bed there, and you know how much fun we can have there.”

“Willow… look…” He pointed out and she followed his finger and she saw Buffy walking toward a couple kissing. Buffy ran the other way and she heard Angel’s voice, call to her.

            “Buffy!”

“Oh God! Angel! Oz, I have to go after her.”

“We will, come on.” They tried to keep up with her as best they could, but without his wolf senses all they could do was go in the general direction she had ran. They were on the outskirts of town and they had to stop, they were out of breath.

            “Oz… what… do… we… do?”

“Wait! Didn’t… you… say… that…” he gasped for air, he fell to the ground and she fell onto of him. “Not now… we have… to find… Buffy.”

“Oh Oz.” They sat until they were calm enough to speak.

            “Where would… she have gone?”

            “I don’t know… where are we?”

            “Almost out of town.”

“OZ! I know! The mansion!” They stood up again and headed toward the mansion. She was shaking, she felt some energy, emanating from the building. “We have to go in.”

They ran inside, and Willow was shaking, she didn’t know what was happening, she’d never felt this much energy, this much power. They ran into the main hall and saw Buffy lying there, her head on his chest. Drusilla was coming up behind her with an axe.

“NOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!” Willow threw up her hands, as if to stop it, and Drusilla flew back against the wall, ten feet away. “Whoa!”

Willow ran over to Buffy in time to see his eyes dart open. Their hands interlocked and Buffy was going through his pockets.

            “Buffy?”

“Willow, I have to get him to a hospital, he’s lost a lot of blood. He doesn’t have his cell phone, I have to get a car.”

“Well, ask no more.” Xander said as he walked in, “Let’s go, we thought it might be worth checking out when you all disappeared in three seconds.” Doyle and Xander walked over to Angel and picked him up and carried him to the car.

PART 31 (PG - Senses)

He was still. She sat by him, holding his hand, telling him she loved him. “Angel? You have to wake up now, there is no choice, you don’t get a vote, I’m making the decision. I need you.”

Her mom walked into the room. “Buffy, are you okay?”

“Yeah Mom, thanks. What are you doing here?”

“Willow called Giles’ and we came over, is Angel… I mean will he b…”

“No, Mom, he’s going to be fine, he’s just resting and he will wake up when he’s strong enough.”

            “Buffy, the doctor says th…”

“NO! The doctor doesn’t know anything, Angel will wake up when he’s ready.”

“Buffy, he lost a lot of blood, Buffy, he was deprived of oxygen for a long time, he might no…”

“NO! He’s coming back to me, he won’t leave me.” She turned to him and whispered, “He can’t.”

            “Giles!”

            “Willow, how is he?”

“Not good, the doctors say he lost too much blood, he’s in a coma now, they… they’re not being very optimistic, they… it’s impossible, that’s what they say, ‘it’s impossible for him to come out of this unharmed, it would take a miracle,’ that’s what they said.”

            “Well, they have happened before.”

“Yeah, but how many times can this be fixed? Giles, I have to tell you something, I’m not sure I understand it myself.”

            “What?”

“Well, Oz and I went into the mansion and Drusilla was about to slice Buffy and I screamed and I put my hands up and Drusilla flew back, like ten feet. I felt so much energy, power, I felt it around the mansion, my fingers were tingling. What do you think it is? A spell?”

“I don’t know Willow, maybe you’re developing control over your powers, maybe they are growing.”

“Hey, that’s kind of neat, huh?”

“I suppose.” He looked up and Buffy came out. “Buffy? How are you?”

“Fine, I mean, as best as I can be, given… consideri…” she fell to the ground and started crying. “He’s not going to wake up, we’ve been here for four days and he’s never going to come back to me, there are so many machines, so muc… how will I go on? I can’t get over him again, I can’t say goodbye, not after what we’ve shared, what we have… I can’t do it.”

“Maybe you won’t have to. Buffy, I could find a waking spell, and we could do it.”

            “Do you thin…”

“BUFFY! Buffy, I had a vision, a vision with Angel!”

            “What Cordelia?”

“A vision, with you and Angel and a wedding, a baby, I saw you, both of you, Buffy, it has to mean that he’ll wake up, I saw a baby, your baby… Buffy… it’s the PTB, I mean, Tara, she’s telling you not to worry, he just needs to rest… Buffy…”

            “Cordelia… I can’t believ…”

            “Buffy, I’ve never been wrong.”

He lay still, seeing everything he’d seen, and everything he hadn’t. He heard her voice, felt her fingers on his hands, they were so warm. He couldn’t reach her, he could get to her, and he was hurting her, again. She was begging for him to wake up and he tried, he wanted to be with her. Had it been a joke? To make him want to be with her and take him away? Was that the plan all along? He came back to sit by him.

“Angel? Take this.” She put the ring in his hands. “Angel, see, you have to come back to put it back on my hand, otherwise, it’s just going to sit there. You have it, you have to put it back on, please! We’re going to have a baby, Cordelia had a vision, a baby, a wedding, we’re going to have it all, so you take the time you need, I understand, and I’m going to be right here when you wake up.”

He felt her place the ring in his palm and clasp his fingers around it. He had to get back to her. She put her head on his chest and soon, she had stopped crying, her breathing was steady, she was sleeping. He tried to put his arms around her, he tried, but he couldn’t.

PART 32 (PG - Awakenings)

            “Spike?”

            “Yeah, love?”

“She’s powerful! She pushed me back, you saw it.”

“Yes, I did love. What will we do?”

“I think we should find that girl and her friend, and we should…” she whispered into his ear and grazed it with her tongue. “We should… play and feed… and then we should do it again.”

She woke up and she remembered falling asleep. “Angel? I’m up now, it’d be a perfect time for you to too.” She kept her head there, listening to his heart beat, it was so weak and wonderful.  “You know, if you don’t wake up soon, I’m going to go ahead and make all the wedding arrangements myself and I’ll get an ugly yellow dress and you’ll have to deal with it.”

I watched, there was a blockage, something was stopping him from returning to her.

“How you doing?”

“Been better.”

“Not hard to believe. You were a real soldier last night, Buffy.”

“That's me. One of the troops.”

“I know how hard it was for you.”

“I really doubt that.”

“Is there anything I can do to make it better?”

“Look, I know you only did what I asked. And we, we got what we wanted.”

“I never wanted it to go that far.”

“I know that. It’s not even a question of that. It’s just, after ... I need a little bit of a break. Please.”

And he knew.

“I’m just going to stay right here forever, Angel, I don’t care if I grow old right here I’m not leaving you, you can’t get rid of me this easy.” She started crying, “Angel, please, you have to listen, you can’t get rid of me, I’m n…”

“Why would I want to do that?”

“Angel?” She looked up and he smiled at her. “ANGEL!” She leaned over and brushed his lips with her own. He responded and then pushed away. “Angel?”

“Buffy, I…”

“I know.”

He sat up and winced at the pain, and he took her hand. He slid the ring on her finger, she was shaking slightly and he looked into her eyes, “You still my girl?”

She smiled. “Always.”
