Part 2
“Hey Jason, come here.”He gets up from his seat and takes the one next to me.
“It’s beautiful, isn’t it?” I smile contently as I gaze outside the plane window. Vegas may seem like a dirty place but the view at night is incredible.
I can feel his eyes on me. “Yes, it is.”
I turn my head to look at him and my breath catches in my throat. I blink and shake my head slightly to push away the sudden awkwardness.
“You ready to party it up tomorrow?”
“Yeah, I can’t wait. I’ve never been to Vegas so it should be interesting.” He puts his arm over my shoulders and I tense up. I know he felt it because he tensed up as well.
Go with the flow.
I take a deep breath and lean more into him. He’s right about one thing…
This will definitely be interesting.
“Britney let’s dance.” Jansen yelled over the music. I shook my head.“I’m going to find Jason.”
She nods and makes her way back into the swarm of gyrating bodies. I look down at my watch. 3:38 am. I spot Jason at our booth, keeping to him self. He looks so lost and out of place. He looks…hot. I walk over to him and lean over the table.
“You want to get out of here?”
“What about the others?”
“They want to stay.”
“Ok.” He gets up and I link my arm through his. “Are we heading back to the room?” he asks as we start walking towards the elevators.
“No, I want to do something wild and crazy.” I punch the down button and the doors open.
“Well what you got in mind? It’s like 4 in the morning.” The doors close and he pushes the lobby button. I turn to face him and wrap my arms around his neck. He leans back against the wall, pulling me along. I look up at him, searching his eyes, gazing over each line of his face. Out of the blue, I’m filled with a sudden feeling of ease and comfort. Tightening my hold around his neck, my face mere inches away from his, I whisper,
“Let’s get married.”
His eyes widened. “What?”
I nodded.
“Are you crazy?” he paused and rested his head against the wall. “You’re drunk, aren’t you?”
“No…I really want to do this.”
“Do you know what will happen if people got hold of this?”
“Who’s going to know? It’s 4 in the morning.”
“Britney…”
“Please?”
He sighed and looked down at me. “You’re serious.”
“Yes.”
He stares at me once again and his eyes softened. The elevator stopped and he unwrapped my arms. The doors opened and he took hold of my hand.
“Let’s go get married.”
I sit up straight up on the edge of the bed, his sleeping figure resting peacefully behind me. As I set in silence, my gaze travels down to the ring adorned on my finger.I can’t believe we went through with it. How the hell did I allow this to happen? What the fuck was I thinking? “Oh no, what is mama gonna think?” I already got the third degree from Courtney and Jansen, lord knows what my mother will say.
I look at the clock on top of the nightstand. 7:54 am. I get up from my spot and quietly head to the bathroom. Closing the door, I glance at my reflection in the mirror. I can’t recognize my own face anymore. I run warm water in the sink and splash my face. I can hear the fair ring tone of my phone and I quickly rush out to my purse. I look over at Jason still sound asleep. Good thing he’s a deep sleeper. I open up my purse and take out my phone. Looking down at the caller I.D., I bite my lip and take a deep breath before answering.
“Morning mama.”
