Scholarships for ALL Students
-by Mary Bierman

Since the increase in unit payments per class students without financial aid, like the Board of Governors (BOG) waiver, have had to slow down their academic advancements. These students are faced with their parents financial stability regardless if they are no longer living with them.

CMCs school counselor, Tony Thomas, said There are always options besides quitting school or slowing their education down.

The state of California has increased the college budget from $11 dollars per unit to $18 dollars per unit. Students who are unable to collect any of the college programs, because of parents annual income, are finding it difficult to go full time to work and attend school. With the increase, it is now even harder and Thomas says it is pushing some students back in education.

His advice to students with this dilemma is that they should talk to either the counselors or someone in Finical Aid located in Student Services. There are websites and books they can give students to apply for hundreds of scholarships. Students should try to take advantage of these scholarships for scholarships are the only offerings available at this time. Thomas added, The state of California is still low in unit costs compared to $26 dollars per unit in other states.
