Officers’ Spouses Club Offers Scholarships

The Officers Spouses Club (OSC) from Marine Corps Air Ground Combat Center (MCAGCC) Twentynine Palms is looking to award scholarships this spring to eligible Copper Mountain College (CMC) students.
The OSC is a non-profit organization that believes in helping the local community of the Morongo Basin, and is not only a Marine base social club. Written into their bylaws, is the requirement to help the community in any way they can. For as long as there has been an OSC, there have been scholarships and grants given out to the community. The funds to help with scholarships and other various community projects come from fundraisers given throughout the year; the biggest of which is the Mardi Gras Benefit auction, which this year is open to all military and civilians in the Morongo Basin, and will be held Feb. 19 at the Officers Club aboard the Marine base.
As noted, by 2004-2005 OSC President, Stephanie Kozel, “Last year we awarded 8 scholarships and this year we are hoping to get more applicants.” By getting the word out around CMC that this scholarship is available, the OSC may get more applicants than in years past.
In order to be eligible, you must be either the spouse or child of an active duty, retired or deceased military member, with a valid ID, that reside in the Morongo Basin, you must write a 500 word essay, have record of voluntary community service and letters of recommendation.
