My Flute Philosophy
It is my great joy to make wooden flutes. They are primitive, yes and primal sounds slide easily from their throats. Cedars which have soaked up rain and sunshine and with every growth ring stored up music from the forest allow me access to their hearts. I would not cut a live tree to make a flute but there are plenty of veterans for me to use, many of them which after being cut have put in decades of guard duty holding barbed wire while waiting for me. With their permission to carve and tune and create they give me the opportunity to coax them into sculptures that sing!
Coyote and Flutes
These flutes must have a wonderful voice, but a pleasing sound is only part of their criteria. They are painstakingly formed and tuned with a chromatic electronic device. Precision craftsmanship allows anyone who truly wants, to play sweet melodies from these trees which live again.
In addition to performance quality these musical instruments must also meet a special standard as individual works of art. They are carved into three-dimensional forms with numerous designs and animal shapes burned into their surfaces. Then they are finished off with a special beeswax blend. I invite you to participate in the relaxing peace these flutes can give.
