Frauds and the Evil Jewel
There are those in the sword business who would make money from Highlander fans too stupid to realize they are purchasing a fake. Shame on them. I however plan to educate Highlander fans on how to know what's real and what is not. Read on.
The Evil Jewel
For some reason, whether it be copyright dodging or otherwise, almost all of the Highlander frauds on the market today have "THE EVIL JEWEL". "THE EVIL JEWEL" as I like to call it is a sure fire sign that what you are about to purchase is not a licensed product or a high quality product. "THE EVIL JEWEL" is most often red and located near the Fuchi, or the ring on the handle behind the tsuba. "THE EVIL JEWEL" is plastic, and worth nearly nothing on it's own. Although, one the handle of your sword it can bring down your sword's value. Here are some examples.
Connor Macleod Fake
 Figure 1
 Figure 2
As you can see they are both very nice swords. In fact, they look similar don't they? Ha! It doesn't take a genius to see that Figure 2 is the real Connor Macleod Katana. Figure 1 is the fake. Note the "Evil Jewel".
Duncan Macleod Fake
 Figure 3
 Figure 4
Once again we see "The Evil Jewel". A warning sign that Figure 3 is a fake created by another company to make money off of Highlander. Not only are the fakes cheaper, but they are made cheaper. I bought one and it is now cracked about one third of the way up. Cheap Junk!
Dark Magic Fake
 Figure 5
 Figure 6
Yes, these swords are often mistaken for each other. They do not look alike really except that they are both black and have molded handles and a face, and wings and...well you get the point. Figure 6 is the Dark Magic Sword. Figure 5 is the "Black Dragon Katana" and I believe it is made by United Cutlery. I don't think it was intended as a Highlander Fake. But if you look closely you can see why it is ranked here. "The Evil Jewel" is featured prominently on the handle. Is it an attempted fake? Maybe. "The Evil Jewel" has raised my suspicions.
Kurgan Swords
 Figure 7
 Figure 8
I have placed these two weapons side by side so that you can see what a good job was done on the replica, Figure 8, by seeing it next to the original, Figure 7. I have no complaints about this sword. Go and buy one while you still can.
