Your page is most interesting. I too am a cowboy of color and my wife and I own hosres ourselves. We ride as often as possible, and take the family to Rodeo's too. Wanna keep it breif, keep up the good work. There are many people that need to read and hear this on both sides.

My kids ride English; their two best friends are African-American and they are all four best friends and horsey girls. The older of the two friends is 14 and just took her first Champion ribbon in Jumping. She and her sister are the only African-American horsewomen in the shows in Indiana County, Pa.. (I lived in Texas--Austin and Houston in the 80's by the way.) The older girl, whose name is Melia, is in trouble at school. There is only a small AA community here and she is further marginalized by the fact that her mom is white and not married to her father who is Black. Her mother tries hard, does what she can to get the girls to riding and shows and works her butt off in maintenance at the University and then babysits to get the money the girls need to ride and show. But the girls don't see their Black family much at all and the dad has remarried. I know some of Melia's problems are due to racism, of course, but I think she would profit from some mentoring from an AA Horsewoman or an organization of African-American Horse people. I know her granddad because I am in the NAACP (I'm Italian American and an old 60's person.) but he does not have a good relationship with Melia's Mom. And when Melia and Ashley are with their cousins, the cousins make fun of them for not having braids. I can be here for her but you should have seen her and her sister's eyes light up when we visited Robert Johnson's daughter Paige Johnson's Salamander Farm in Va.. It is a showcase English stable. Johnson owns the Black Television Network and he bought the farm for his daughter who is a world famous Equestrienne. Easily the most wonderful stable in Hunt Country. Anyway--I am in a position of mentoring this young woman--she loves horses and loves riding--she doesn't have a computer. But she can use this one because she visits my girls here and spends the night quite often. Do you have any suggestions? I told her about your "cowgirls o' color." Thanks for your time.

Just thought it interesting to find a single mother with horses and all. I know how hard it is as I gave up all that to go back to school. But I will be in the saddle again one day. I cannot afford horses right now. When I get thru with school, if I make it, I plan on getting back into it. Every time I see a horse trailer or see a sign about a show, my heart winces. I miss my horses so much! You are so lucky! Give your horses a hug for me! Good luck!

You invited me here from Planetall.com. I really enjoyed your site. While I am not "of color", I have long been aware of the roll that black Americans have played throughout history.
From the Civil War, Buffalo Soldiers, cowboys and explorers, many contributors to our history have been overlooked personally while their contributions have been noted without mention of name, race, religion or other distinguishing areas worthy of mention.
Your graphics are outstanding, the reflection in the moving water is the first I have ever seen. You have a page to be proud of.
