Litter Facts

8/21 - 10 BIG puppies born by caesarian section at our vets office.  Our 8 boys and 2 girls are delivered by 3 vets and 10 vet techs.  Cassie wasn’t happy but pulled through like a champ.  All 10 pups checked and in good health.

8/21 - All Pups are home and Cassie is very groggy.  Bottle feeding starts and our Belgian Malinous female, Naloni, is helping with cleaning and stimulating.

8/22 - Mom Cassie takes control of her litter and starts to nurse pups with supplimentel feeding by bottle. 10 Puppies is alot for mom.

8/25 - Mom and pups re-checked by vet.  Moms milk not dropping, possibly because of C-section.  Bottle feeding continues every 2 hours.

9/1 - Puppies have thier first nail trimming.

9/3 - 9/4 - Hurricane Frances mosies across South Florida just a few miles north of us.  Lots of roof water damage and tree damage but everyone is doing great.  Pups are still being bottle fed every two - three hours.  Without power we are now heating the bottled water with sterno.  Pups don’t like not having A/C and get cooled down with a water mister.  Everyone gets to go to Grandma and Grandpa’s house because of downed powerlines in the yard.  Nine days later power is back, the lines are finally off the ground and the pups are back home.

9/7 - Puppies get thier first meal out of a dish.  Puppy gruel, yum yum. Most of the puppies are quite adept at swimming through it instead of eating it.

9/9 - First Puppy De-Worming (1cc Strongid T) and Mom gets her stitches out.

9/13 - Second nail trimming.

9/16 - Second De-worming (1cc Strongid T).

9/17 - First sponge bath.

9-21 - Last bottle feeding

9/21 - Puppies move to a larger play area.  They get half the living room and we get the other half.

9-22 - All puppies eatting mashed puppy food. Some like it better than others. Food consists of Science Diet Large Breed Puppy and some SD canned puppy.

9-22 - Third nail trimming.

9-23 - Puppies go to the vet for another check up.  Heart, lungs, eyes, ears, teeth, hips, overall soundness are great.  Dr. Butzer said we have a beautiful litter of pups. Puppies still want to nurse off of mom but she can only take it for a few minutes then she tells them enough.

9-23 - Puppies Third De-worming (1cc Strongid T)

9-26 - Puppies ride out thier second hurricane Jeanne. Thank God we didn’t lose power again and no downed power lines.

9-28 - Fourth nail trimming.

9-29 - Litter registration form sent in to the American Kennel Club.  Due to the hurricanes the registration was sent in one week late.

9-29 - Second sponge bath.  All puppies are true Goldens and couldn’t wait to get wet and loved it.

10-3 - Puppy fifth nail trimming.  Mom gets lasix injection and tablets to reduce breast milk production.

10-5 - Big sink bath day. 

10-5 - 6 week health check ups, health certificates and first series of vaccines.  (Fecal exams = negative)(Vaccine = parvo, distemper, hepatitis, parainfluenza)

10-9 - Sink bath day again. Visitors coming for socialization and play time.

10-12 - Every pup gets play time in the grass and dirt with mom and Naloni. 

10-13 - Sink bath time after playtime in the grass and dirt and nail trim.  Visitors coming to play with puppies again.

10-15 - Puppies get a new grassy fenced in area to play and roll in. They played for hours and tired each other out.  Very quite evening for once.

10-18 - Puppies get their first introduction to swimming using a shallow kiddy pool.  A little cold, dirty and very wet Green did not want to get out.

10-19 - Had their first bath in the big bath tub and Grandma and Grandpa help fluff and dry.  They just don’t fit in the kitchen sink anymore. 

10-19 - Puppies had lots of visitors today for socialization.  They were all on their best behavior and had a great time.

10-23 - Pups get an introduction to agility type equipment  All of the puppies are outgoing, curious and confident on their new play equipment and had great fun.  Everyone of the pups made a game out of climbing, running through and over the new stuff.

10-24 - Another outing with their new equipment.  More than once, Yellow took great joy in balancing on the see-saw perfectly.  Much to the amazement of his buddies.

10-25 - Big rinse off in the big bath tub and another nail trimming.  Puppies are very well behaved during their baths and rinsings.  Had more visitors for socialization and one of our pups found himself a home!
