Adopting your McPaws Pawsitively Golden Hearts Puppy

The first step in adopting one of our puppies is to complete the Adoption Application.  Please note that a $250 deposit is required at the time of application to reserve a puppy.  The deposit is nonrefundable once you have been approved as a buyer.   Once the adoption application has been reviewed and approved, we will contact you with the great news.

Approved buyers with cleared deposits  will be put on the list with others looking to adopt.  Each application is dated to ensure that you get your puppy in the order in which you successfully completed the adoption application procedures.  If you are paying by check you will be put on the list as soon your check clears.  The balance due on your puppy purchase must be received by prior to you coming to pick up your puppy.  Please note that any balances paid by check will need to clear prior to puppy pickup.

As responsible breeders, we are careful to ensure that our dogs are healthy and free from inheritable diseases. Our dogs are carefully screened for health/genetic problems for GRCA guildline certifications and vaccinated regularly by our veterinarian.   Puppies undergo thorough veterinary examinations and are up to date in their vaccinations and dewormings before they are placed with new owners. We stand behind the health of our puppies with a comprehensive health guarantee as detailed below and in our sales contract.

We love our dogs and their puppies and want to ensure that they are placed only in homes where they will continue to be well cared for and loved.   Potential buyers need to be ready and able to accept the responsibilities that go along with owning a McPaws Golden Retriever.  Prior to making the decision to bring a Golden Retriever puppy into their home, we recommend that potential buyers research the breed  and that they objectively evaluate whether they truly have the time, energy, financial resources and appropriate home environment to care for the Golden puppy's needs. A securely fenced yard and a plan for basic obedience training are strongly preferred.Though there are a number of other legitimate reasons for getting a puppy (working, sport, show, breeding, etc.) none should ever exclude or override the most important one, the desire for companionship.  Your new puppy should be considered as an new member of the family, this is how the puppy will view you...  Should you have any questions about the breed and whether a Golden is a good choice for you, please do not hesitate to contact us.

Health Guarantee:

We require that  you take your new puppy to your veterinarian to be checked within 48 hours of your receipt of the dog.  Please have your vet check documented in writing for your benefit.  If you pick up your puppy on a Saturday we will extend the vet check time limit to 72 hours.  Should your vet diagnose a life threatening condition during his or her initial examination, you must contact us immediately and promptly return the pup to us for a refund or replacement pup.  If within the first year life the puppy is diagnosed with an inherited, genetically life threatening illness, we will require written documentation from your veterinarian.  Upon review and concurrence of our veterinarian, we will  reimburse you for related vet bills, up to the purchase price of the puppy.  In such situations, depending on liter availability, we will extend to you the opportunity for a pick puppy from future liter at a discounted price.

When your pick your puppy up, he/she will be fully up to date on all required vaccinations and dewormings in the State of Florida.  We will provide you with a State of Florida Health certificate documenting these treatments when you pick up your puppy.  Please note that you will be required to continue on the appropriate vaccination and dewormings schedule as required by the state/county in which your reside to ensure for the continued health and well being of your puppy.  Written proof of timely completion of required vaccinations, dewormings and veterinary examinations is required to be eligible for our health guarantee.

PICKING UP YOUR PUPPY

When it comes time for your brand new puppy to come home, we try very hard to make it as easy on the new parents as we do on our Golden babies. We will not ship our puppies.  All puppies must be personally picked up.  When you come to our home to visit or pick up your new pup please be prepared to follow certain procedures to ensure the continued health of our dogs and pups.  We require that all visitors remove their shoes at the front door when entering our home. This limits viruses that can come in on your shoes that could possibly make a puppy ill.  We also require hand washing before handling pups for the same reason.  For the protection of our dogs and puppies, we do not allow other dogs or dog toys to be brought into our home.  We also require that if you are considering adopting a puppy from another source that you not schedule a visit with us on the same day you have visited pups at another source.  We hope that you will understand our health concerns and come to our home prepared to cooperate with these procedures.

Appointments to visit or pickup your puppy must be made in advance. Please do not arrive at our home without having schedule an appointment with us.  We will not allow unscheduled “drop-in” visits.  We will do our best to schedule mutually convenient appointment times.  We recommend that you come in casual clothes in which you will be comfortable getting on the floor to handle your puppy.

We recommend that you transport your puppy home in a crate that is buckled in a seat belt.  You may want to wear casual clothes and bring a towel just in case the pup had an accident in the crate.  If your trip home is a lengthy one, please remember to stop about once per hour to let your puppy relieve himself/herself. Always use your puppy’s collar and leash, no matter how quiet the place you select for a rest spot appears.   Please keep in mind traffic conditions and try to select a spot where other dogs have probably not relieved themselves.  Your new puppy is not fully vaccinated and you should take every precaution to protect his/her health until the vaccination series is fully completed..

The ride home is a great bonding time.  Even though your puppy may be in a crate, it’s a quiet time when your puppy can start getting acquainted with your voices.  Crates also have plenty of visibility and you can gently pet your puppy face too!

In addition to a copy of the AKC liter registration and your puppy’s health records, we will provide you with a sample of the Science Diet Large Breed Kibble that he/she has been eating.  If you do not plan to continue feeding your puppy this type of food, please use this sample to transition your puppy to his/her new food.  Please plan to bring a leash and collar with you when come to pick up your puppy.
