Students get excited about Global Studies

Continued from page 3

When asked what a typical Global Studies course may consist of, Chen responded "Contemporary Labor in a Global Context would be the kind of class we would want to offer because you can combine elements of literature, film, history and political science." In addition, he recommended "Servants of Globalization" by Rhacel Salazar Parrenas as a primary text for the course.
Some of the other literature titles mentioned by Chen for inclusion in the Global Studies curriculum were "The World is a Ghetto: Race and Democracy Since World War II" by Howard Winant, "Holding Aloft the Banner of Ethiopia: Caribbean Radicalism in Early Twentieth-Century America" by Winston James and "Third World Women and the Politics of Feminism" by Chandra Talpade Mohanity, Ann Russo and Lourdes Torres. Also, Chen hopes to incorporate films like "Life + Debt" and "Dirty Pretty Things" as another important part of course curriculum.
