Assessment Outline and Matrix

 

I.                    Persuasive Writing Portfolio

A.     Counts 30% of grade

B.     Students write three draft essays on different topics and choose one to showcase their ability by working to final draft

C.     Essays evaluated by a rating scale

 

II.                 Unit Test

A.     Counts 10% of quarter grade

B.     I allowed students to write a correction paragraph for each missed problem where they explained what the right answer was and why they made a mistake

C.     This assessed learning from the first half of the quarter

 

III.               Journals

A.     Counts for 35% of quarter grade

B.     Students were expected to write a full page for each warm-up question (first 10 minutes of class)

C.     Journals collected on random dates and a selection of work was graded thoroughly using the rating scale

Identify explanations for the abandonment of Ankgor

Students record initial hypotheses and revise them as they encounter new data sets

 

Essay one requires students to identify the most convincing explanation, and include a critique

Day one and two students write summaries, compare with partner and revise summaries into a 25 word abstract

Students create a class list of hypotheses and revise them over time with the help of the group

 

In writing the portfolios, students analyze other students? work to induce positive writing attributes from peer work
