e-mail the band about CD's and merchandise. Korkscrew Live: Past & Present

08/31/2003  Windsor Community Center, Windsor, N.S.

Jake Smith, a good friend of the band and also a very skilled axe-wielder/singer/performer/teacher, is organizing a huge show at the Windsor Community Center. You should expect performances from Jake Smith himself, Gouge, Demise and Korkscrew. Further details about this show will be posted as soon as possible.

08/02/2003  HILLSTOCK, Mt.Uniacke, N.S.

Fellow valley metal band Gouge is hosting Hillstock 2003 and has asked Korkscrew to play. The outdoor festival will take place in Mount Uniacke and will showcase the like of Gouge, Korkscrew, Zero and more. Should be a hell of a party and a MONSTER of a METALFEST! Bring your tents, and attitudes cuz this show is gonna be a MONSTER!!!

07/18/2003  Justin Wile's Birthday Party, Three Mile Plains, N.S.

Due to a falling out with our drummer, we won't be able to play this show. We have something in the works that should prove to be beneficial to the band. Hopefully this will be the last of the shows we'll ever have to pull out of.

06/20/2003  Kingstec Community College, Kentville, N.S.

The Kingstec show never took place.

Rockfest 2K3, one of the best times i've had in a while. It was a hell of a show, once again we shared the stage with Malign who I must say did a wicked job as always, smashing guitars, getting mosh pits going, letting us use thier double kick pedal cuz someone from another band broke Vince's by accident, thanks Justin, we appreciate it man. Malign always does a good job of playing kick ass metal, t'was a blast. Speedbump, Revolution of the Void and Championship Vinyl were there also. 46&2 Big Chew did a wicked job on the drums, told ya'll he could play. Devin nailed Cold and Ugly on the bass and of course all of our original stuff. jUs was all sported up in his trademark wig and goin' off on the guitar. We opened our setlist with Drowning, a Korkscrew original and dedicated the song to chester road and the office (roader's car), played a cover after that, TOOL's Cold and Ugly which was followed by another Korkscrew original called Deep Dark Hole, and finished our set with Getting Unglued another Korkscrew original. The Korkscrew ARMY has risen, seems like everyone had a good time and enjoyed the show. Good to see so many familiar faces and also unfamiliar ones as well. A friend of ours (Bowman) got smashed over the head with a steel pipe or a bottle (i'm not entirely sure what exactly happened yet but Bowman will have his revenge on Kentville) by some drunk dickhead after the show but we've been told he's (Bowman's) alright. Malign asked us to play their CD release party, looking forward to that so I can finally get ahold of a Malign CD :) Thanks to everyone who showed up tonight in support of Rockfest and of course Korkscrew. Maybe next year Rockfest'll have better luck with sponsors. With Rockfest being done and gone, i'm gonna see if we can get some bookings in Halifax, wish us luck. Till next time all, l8r.

05/21/2003  Hants West Rural High School, Brooklyn, N.S.

We played the last ever talent show for the Hants West Rural High School. There was a huge pile of talent there, as well as a huge pile of crap. Some of the talent included Jake Smith, Gouge, a fire juggler and of course Korkscrew. We played our first ever unplugged set, which everyone seemed to enjoy, though some told us never to do it again. Guess ya'll just like the metal we produce. We met Gouge, another Windsor native band who we'll hopefully have the opportunity to share the stage with again. Jake pulled out some killer tunes as always. It's always a pleasure seeing and hearing Jake play. Jake's organizing another show for the future at the Windsor Community Center.

05/13/2003  Dalhousie School of Music, Halifax, N.S.

Well, Korkscrew didn't enter Canadian Idol as planned but it's no big deal. I was planning on painting Korkscrew on my body and running around naked till the Canadian Idol security yanked me outta the building, that'd get us in the papers and on the news. Seems like in Nova Scotia you really have to do something drastic and extreme to get noticed. I'm not sure what the fine for public nudity is but it woulda been worth it.

03/22/2003  Lockhartville Hall, Lockhartville,N.S.

Our new drummer (Vince) pulled a no show, but we had a few good fellas volunteer to play for us, thanks Dean (friend) and Ryan (friend and drummer for Under Pressure)and Jayson, you guys are great. We could have tried to call Bozway but I don't know if he'll even talk to me anymore. We also had a second guitarist come up and jam with us, thanks Jayson, rock on, and our offer still stands. Hope Pam and Joe had happy birthdays. It was fun hanging out jamming on acoustic stuff afterwards too. I just got home and it's 6 in the morning, whoo what a night. There were performances by The Mingle Slinky, Under Pressure, Jim Turner, Caleb Mack, and a lot of people coming together to jam and sing. T'was a good time, I think we expanded our listening audience a bit. We had some people ask us to play other venues and also even ER's, a local Windsor bar. We got lots of compliments on our sound and style and it was really kewl to have people's advice. Korkscrew in bars, now there's an idea. Thanks to Pam and Joe for asking us to play their party, it was a blast and we'll be looking forward to next year.

03/01/2003  Upper Falmouth Hall, Falmouth,N.S.

Korkscrew with Malign and Demise

Our first Headliner at the Upper Falmouth Hall was a success.Demise started off the show with a set of all originals, they borrowed Korkscrew's guitarist to use as thier drummer, TBC and John closed the Demise set as a 2 piece, great job guys. Demise should have a CD out soon, they've spent some time recording with Jake Smith (recent ECMA winner with The Jimmy Swift Band) Korkscrew then followed Demise with half their set list. Malign (formerly known as Boddah)went up after Korkscrew's half set. They also played a set of 100% originals, all songs that can be found on their new CD which was recently finished at Ocean Sound Productions, look for their cd in stores and through the underground music scene. Korkscrew followed Malign's set with the other half of their setlist. Hopefully we'll have a CD out sometime before the end of spring. To close the show the bands mixed members and did a few Nirvana covers, always lots of fun to do. Apparently there was some confusion with some people, the show was held at the Upper Falmouth Hall but a lot of people wound up going to the Lower Falmouth Hall by the Falmouth Quick Way. It sucks cause they missed a lot of great music. Ah well, next time. Rob got his money back for renting the hall and there was enough left over to split between the bands and those who helped work the door, did clean up, etc. so all in all the show was a success.

02/01/2003  Hantsport Fire Hall, Hantsport,N.S.

Korkscrew played a half hour set at the Hantsport Fire Hall to help raise money for Circle's Ireland Trip. Circle is a youth theatre group where both Scott and Jeff have had the oppourtunity to act in the past. The show was great, the band picked up a few more fans along the way. People were chanting Korkscrew all night after the band finished their set. We picked up a few more gigs along the way. Details will be posted soon. Special thanks to Mallory Moors for making this show a possiblity for us and to Bryan and Erin Pemberton for their unrelentless support, camera work, and sending us in the clips.

12/31/2002  "The Dungeon", Falmouth,N.S.

What was supposed to be Korkscrew's second gig never happened. We were set to play "The Dungeon" and ring in the new year, but got a no show from our former guitarist and a drummer who was barfing his guts up everywhere the whole night. Their vocalist then decided to stay home and "feed the cat". The gig never happened for Korkscrew but the party of course went on.

10/31/2002  The Production Schoolhouse, Windsor,N.S.

Korkscrew's first gig went off without a hitch. We opened up the Hallowe'en show for Smack Dab a Halifax pop band. The crowd was favoring Korkscrew's metal fused, alternative style over Smack Dab's bubble gum pop rock. The crowd was great and even got some moshing and stage diving in along with the band. When Korkscrew's set list (6 songs for their first gig) was finished the crowd was screaming for Korkscrew to come back and give an encore performance. To close the show some of the members from both bands got together and did a few Nirvana covers.
