An ambush--so predictable.
Reggie slowly moves backwards along the side of the temple above the opening. We hear stones fall into a cavern. Reggie hesitates then looks to a small opening in the stone. She removes a small, pen flashlight from her pocket and shines it down the hole. A twisted smile crosses her face.
REGGIE
Hmm, the back door appears to be left open and unattended.
INT. TEMPLE RUINS
We see the small, empty room of stone lit only by the remaining sunlight from the small opening in the stone. A golden dagger rests on the old, stone altar. We hear a slight, shrill scream. Reggie falls through the narrow opening in the stone and lands on her feet then falls to her backside. She's covered in cobwebs. Reggie begins pulling the cobwebs from her face and spits some of them out.
REGGIE
(mutters)
Oh--disgusting. I hate spiders.
Reggie looks around the nearly empty room, sees the dagger on the altar, and springs to her feet. She approaches the altar, hesitates only a moment, then removes the dagger. She looks back to the opening in the stone, frowns, then looks toward the main entrance.
REGGIE
The best offense is a good defense.
EXT. TEMPLE RUINS -- EVENING
We see the apelike creatures attempting to remain still and hidden along the path near the temple. Their attention is focused on the path leading into the temple. Reggie appears in the opening and stays off to the side. She looks around a moment then slips out of the opening and along the side of the temple. She quickly vanishes into the jungle.
INT. GRAND HALLWAY
We see the extensive, broad marble hallway that extends forever. Koon storms along the hallway with an apelike creature hurrying on two legs after him. Koon appears furious.
KOON
I want her found immediately. There's no telling where she could have gone.
The creature grunts and hurries for the front door. Koon approaches the library and throws open the doors.
INT. LIBRARY
Koon enters the library and suddenly stops in his tracks. We see Reggie casually sitting on one of the leather chairs with a book on her lap. She looks up at Koon, glances at her watch, and smiles.
REGGIE
You're early. I wanted to finish another chapter before collecting my brother and heading home.
Koon stares at her with surprise then looks to the fireplace mantle. We see the golden dagger in its rightful spot above the fireplace. Koon looks back at Reggie with a stunned look.
KOON
That's not possible. My men didn't see you pass through the temple opening.
REGGIE
You mean your ambush party?
Reggie shuts her book and stands. She tosses the book aside.
REGGIE
Please--
(pause)
There's your dagger. Task complete. Where's my brother?
Koon's expression turns harsh.
KOON
How did you get into the temple?
REGGIE
Through the back door.
KOON
There isn't a back door.
REGGIE
I beg to differ.
(firm)
Where's my brother?
KOON
The rules of the contract specifically stated "through the temple door". You didn't complete the
task appropriately.
