I have owned a BMW Motorcycle for over 20 years. I still have my first BMW. A 1974 R75/6, I bought it in 1978, it was mostly in boxes because the engine had rusted rings and would not turn over..The Previous owner took lots of parts off but promised me they were all there. 6 months later it was running again. I was rather poor in those days so things went slowly. I used to grab used tires and batteries and mufflers to save money. The bike was very kind to me for the last 20 years of abuse that I inflicted upon it. It only broke down once and it happened in front of my house at the end of a trip. I say this bike has a soul I treat it much better now! Not their best year(1974) but it is mine and I love it.
A few years ago I decided I had enough "Spare Change" to start collecting some projects. I now have 7 BMW's, My original 1974 R75/6 and then I bought a 1974 R90/6. A tree fell on that bike in 1997. I got it at a fair price and was going to use it for a parts bike. But I kept finding cheap parts at Open houses etc and now it is back on the road. I bought a 1996 R1100RT. I did that because I always wanted a new bike and never had one. I was about to buy a Suburu Wagon and came home with a motorcycle instead. Then in Jan 1999 I found most of a 1967 R50/2. a friend was selling the parts from it. So I got it cheap but it cost a lot of money to buy the missing parts. Some I have just borrowed from friends. The Last purchase was Sept 1999. I found a nice 1973 R75/5 I got involved with the Slash 5 Mail list and web site. got hooked on the Slash 5 rally in Seneca Rocks West Virginia. Excellent group!
2002-2003 additions were a 1976 R90S and a 1983 R80ST. The ST is a really sweet bike....... I am impressed so far.
So that is pretty much it. I decided to put some photos on the web and here I am! |
