| I was given this artefact back in the late 60s, about 1968. At the time I owned a Hillman Super Imp. The first car I ever bought brand new.
It was fire engine red with a black 'go faster' stripe, white wall tyres, twin exhaust pipes and walnut dash board and gear lever knob. I thought about removing the original gear lever and replacing it with this grip. Cool eh? Unfortunately I did not ask the person who gave it to me for details of the aircraft it came from. I only knew it was from a Hawker Hunter. Not so cool! Anyway, shortly after I got married and had other things to occupy my mind. Nearly 39 years, 3 children, 4 Bassett Hounds and several house moves later I was delighted to find it hibernating in a cupboard. I thought it would make a nice project in my retirement to discover the particular a/c it came from. There are a series of numbers & letters on it, some of which can be seen in the top picture. Unfortunately, according to the nice people on the PPRuNe forum, it is not possible to identify any particular Hunter airframe from these characters. They merely refer to the production of the grip which, incidentally, was manufactured by Dunlop. Of course, if you know differently please let me know. More aeroplane pictures. |
