Rock and roll was born in its first recognisable state some say, at a jazz gig conducted in the year 1944 in Los Angeles as a fundraiser for Mexican youths that were wrongly imprisoned following the Zoot Suit riots. Perhaps we can say that the true essence of what rock and roll is then, is protest music; music made by human beings who desire to change something, whether it be personal, political, social or global. Indeed, even the manufacturer of the most heartless, mindless rock song instinctively understands that the essence of rock and roll is to be found in the sentiment of being out of control, of being wild, untamed and rebellious towards those that are authoritarian or oppressive. And just like every other revolutionary movement, rock and roll has been relentlessly copied, imitated and diluted by corporate puppets in the interests of pure capital. Now every idiot mall-rat under the sun can buy their pair of designer ripped jeans and strut about to a totally soulless soundtrack that attempts to mimic the power of good old rock and roll, but in reality is about as subversive as shouting at your parents to leave you alone. If the goal of art is to reach out to the audience and evaporate the effect of the routinisation of life, to put a man back in touch with her human core, through whatever means are possible and imaginable, then the goal of commerce is incongruent to the essence of rock and roll. We advise you thusly therefore: Do not listen to the inhuman slags that attempt to persuade you that music is just a laugh or just anything at all, they are merely trying to drag you into the same numb mediocre hell that they reside in. Do not accept a world in which you are endlessly spoon-fed a diet of mental fast food, because just as your McCocksuckers is full of cow shit and employee snot, entertainment is a psychologically cancerous force that can be as dangerous and damaging to whats inside your skull as fast food undoubtedly is to your digestive tract. Only a thoroughly neurotic masochist would repeatedly shovel trash into his body and believe that it is not doing him any harm.
