Consortium Officers' Letters

Weard Words

I suppose you are all frozen into your keeps and castles by the massive snowdrifts common to the Consortium lands... Or you are wearing bermuda shorts and getting a tan... One of the two I'm sure.

The yuletide is upon us and our thoughts turn away from fighting and such things to more peaceful pursuits. All things Consortium are thus at a rather low ebb. But yet as always, there are happenings.

First of all, we FINALLY have a Heahwyrta.  Congrats to Lady Ciorsdan, who shall make us all more arty in the year (minus a couple of months) to come.  The vote was exceptionally close and we had to wait until the last possible moment to determine a winner.

Second, our brand new incipient, not-quite-yet-Consortium shires of Viridian Fjord and Marion Glen seem to be the only people interested in letting us know what they're up to.  The former will be

holding a fighter practice on the fifth of January - an excellent opportunity for you thugs to go whack on each other without having to travel thousands of miles.  And Marion Glen has a gosling revel that they say I am too old to attend, but if you are not chronologically challenged, you might ought to consider it.

Third, extreme kudos to Lord Gryffri and Lady Leo for their submissions this month.  They are apparently the only people with a pulse in the entire Consortium...oh, and Golly Anne - I know you're paying attention, and I love you too.

Finally, happy holidays to everyone!  And ignore THL Yseult….Bastiano's and my cartoon on the web site is thoughtful, provocative, and a challenge to the gifted.  So there.

Event Reviews

GATALOP

Submitted by Lady Leocadia, Sol Haven

Once again, the Barony of the Osprey hosted a wonderful event at Fort Gaines on Dauphin Island, Alabama. There was good weather, good fighting, and good people. Due to the mild weather this year, there was even an archery tournament.

Lord Ulrich, of Sol Haven, won the Torch Light Tourney Friday night, with only one loss and besting Lord Lochlinn of Osprey in the final round.

Master Geoffrey brought out his wares for populace perusal, and Lord Harailt minded the shop so Master Geoffrey could fight.

THL Caemel, Baroness Osprey, expressed her heartfelt gratitude for Myfanwy Afwrydd of Sol Haven, as she attended the Baroness' pre- and post-fighting armoring needs.

Harailt filled the bill as Court Herald for HRH Artan, and Ulrich was asked to fill in for a missing Baronial Guardsman.

Katherine of the Deepwoods (Osprey) was awarded a much deserved AoA, to the joy and satisfaction of Lady Leocadia. Lady Katherine resides outside the Consortium, and indirectly supports us by taking on the duties of Deputy Bagatelle, thus allowing Leo more time to support the Consortium. (Leo thinks she's a misplaced Consortium member, and we should find a way to bring her `home'. ;) )

Ulrich, son of Sir Simon and THL Katherine, and Leo, daughter of Claremonde de Blakeforde, known as The Merri Wydo (Phoenix Glade), presented themselves at court to ask a boon of HisRH and Barony Osprey - that they be granted permission to wed at Gatalop next year. They were bid return to their families for counsel, and they would be called into the Baronial presence at a later time for the decision of the Court. Look out Simon and Kat, Claremonde has heard of `The Cattle Baron'...

House MacLeod did the Consortium proud as they hosted HRH Artan and the Baron and Baroness of the Osprey for breakfast, lunch and a killer steak dinner on Saturday night. Heartfelt thanks from camp mom Leo to Lord Owen for his kitchen setup, Lady Galienne for help with breakfast and lunch, Lady Katerina for the Low Country Shrimp Boil for lunch, Papa, Owen and THL Caemel for fixing dinner, Hrolfr for heading up the kitchen cleanup, and everyone for breakdown and cleanup Sunday morning.

House MacLeod grows again, as Faelan is welcomed into the Clan. And as soon as he can talk his lady wife into coming - he's trying to choose a good 'first event', she will be by his side at events.

Adam mac Artuir, Man-at-Arms to Ulrich, took ill on Friday's journey south and his lady, Adalheid Winter, tended him with such skill (combined with threats of bodily harm from all House ladies to keep a-bed) that he was well by morning. Adam and Adalheid made House von dem Wolf and House MacLeod proud by pitching in wherever needed. Fine examples of Consortium stock, fine indeed!

Adam also took advantage of the perfect romantic setting of a nearly full moon over the ocean and battlements to ask Adalheid to be his wife. How could she resist? Huzzah and congratulations!!

Social rounds were made Saturday night, as is customary at Gatalop, and THL Sir Baras, Baron of the Osprey, broke out his guitar for entertainment. Drums and zils in the background completed the evening.
