The Southern Watch

The newsletter for the members of the Consortium of Southern Marches, Kingdom of Meridies, November 2001 Edition

Heahwyrta Candidates

As of the beginning of November (deadline for submitting candidates), two shires have nominated potential High Artisans.  The nominees are:

Lady Ciorsdan Lynn Andersoun, Tir Briste, and Lady Isabetta Asini, Sol Haven.

Voting will take place at November shire meetings or through local polls.  Seneschals of the Witan should submit votes to the Weard no later than December 1st.

What a Month!

Consortium folks win Crown List, weddings run rampant, and a beautiful new baby surprises the Consortium (and her parents!).  How can we possibly top that in November??  Well, we figured we'd start with a jam-packed Southern Watch, with letters from Their Royal Highnesses below, plenty of news bits from the shires and individuals, and event reviews and the like throughout.  Relax, read, and enjoy!  And hopefully, we'll all see each other at the upcoming Fighters' Collegium.

(Yep, that's Zada and Baby Elizabeth to the left.  See News from the Marches for more!)

From Their Royal Highnesses

Unto the Wonderful Consortium of the Southern Marches Greetings from His Royal Highness Artan MacDarach!

We were truly Delighted (to borrow a word) to see so many Consortium faces as We defended our Southern Border at Panhandle Skirmishes a few days ago. Of the estimated 55 Meridian fighters on the field, more than one fourth were from the Consortium, and many wore the Consortium Surcoat. Congratulations on a job well done! We, Ourselves, wore a surcoat with the Meridian emblem on the front and the Consortium star on the back. Our Thanks to Lady Ysabeau de Bohun and Lauralynn of Skyekeep for the wonderful job, and We would like to apologize for the enormity of task that sewing for Us inevitably becomes.
We cannot, of course, focus exclusively on Consortium events, as We belong to all of fair Meridies. We will earnestly endeavor, however, to support all of the varied and very cool groups in this little family of Ours. Coronation will be upon us all before we know it, and Fools' War follows immediately after. There are many places to go, and people to meet, but know that you and Our home will never be far from Our thoughts. We encourage you to work together, as you always have, to support and love each other as best you can.

In Service to You, Crown, and Meridies,

The Consortium Mail-Out

PS: The Consortium ROCKS! artan

Greetings unto the Southern Consortium,

Thank you so much for your kind words and offers of help. Be assured that if We think of things you can do to help Us we will ask. One of the first things that comes to mind is the need for gifts that We must give to Our Royal Cousins at Pennsic. Please put on your thinking caps for small gifts that can be given at Pennsic. Armourers, We will need gifts for our fighter cousins. What could you make (inexpensive to you) that each might like to have? Basket hilts and elbow cops are the only things that come to My mind. Likewise, leather workers, what could you make and contribute? These gifts of skill and talent will serve Us better than even personal gifts. Of course, any fund raisers will be greatly appreciated, as the "Meridian Party" is at Our personal expense. (Help!!! How do I say, "We need money for this stuff." It seems so rude. "Oh, by the way, We need your help to throw a party most of you won't get to go to.")

Our calendar is already filling up with events, yet We hope to attend many Consortium events.

The Southern Watch is your Newsletter!

That's why we need submissions!  Special thanks go out to all the groups and their seneschals who took the time to submit news from the marches (though, no, Ulrich, your preferred foods list is not news…), and to all of the wonderful individuals who have either contributed articles or arranged to write special features in coming months.  Thank you also to those of you who contributed photographs!

Remember,
any Consortium members (including people from proto-incipient groups and college clubs) may submit to the Southern Watch.  Articles, news bits, birthday wishes, recipes, opinions, columns - you write it, and we post it!  The only request is that it be written in a clean enough manner that children may read it, too.  Thanks!

Contact us with questions, comments, suggestions, or submissions!
