So the October round concludes. This was a typical round of battle and clan
war. All saw action and there were some suprises on the way.
Congrads to all who placed and a job well done by all. Until next time
"good fight, good night."

Clans have been the center of much debate and conflict as of the last few
rounds, but we must ask ourselves what is it that makes a clan. Some
players believe that a clan is nothing more than a group of friends that
like to play conquest and help each other out. On the other hand some think
that a clan is an elite group of warriors banding together to conquer the
known conquest world.
Well I have taken it upon myself to help settle this dispute on what a clan
truly is. Lets take two prominent examples The Eevil Empire (EE), and The
Immortal Council (IMCO).
Now both of these clans are powerful, no one disputes that. However they
seem to have very different ideas on what a clan actually is and what
constitutes a clan war. We will start with EE.
EE seems to think that a clan is a group of tight knit friends that just
play the game and assist each other. Their founders have know each other
for quite a while and some have played since the first round. Karnack has
said to me that this was the basis of the clan, and that there are no rank
structures because it causes division and in some cases tyrannies. Zoeboy,
founder of IMCO, disagrees.
IMCO seems to be a group of players with a common enemy and not full trust.
This contradicts EE so conflict was inevitable. They have banded together
to wage war on all who appose. They also have a rank structure so everyone
has a job to do. Now not to say that they are warmongers for they help
their kind in time of need also. But the fundamental structure is
different, making these clans almost incompatible.
Now I don't have all of the answers, but I think that you need aspects of
both. I believe that a rank structure can work if used properly and the
lower members can over through the leader if the clan is mismanaged. I also
think that you need to be good friends with those in your clan both in peace
and at war. I also don't want the misconceptions that I am taking sides. I
do not belong to either clan.
If you would like more info on these clans you can contact them at these
address.

October 17, 2001. The day that will probibly define this conquest round.
With out warning countries started loosing massive amounts of money and
productivity is also floored. This has some players scrambling to
compinsate for there lost income. Blade says he will have the problem fixed
soon so for now just hang on. Other players have desided not to play today
until the bug is fixed and wait patiently infront of there computer
screens.

United Nations Defense Initiative (UNDI)
By Scon
10-16-01
UNDI or United Nations Defensive Initiative has been in the background for
most of its existance playing minor rolls in the war between IMCO and EE.
But with the return of 2 founders to the game it has now become a player on
the world stage. With an all time high of members with more to come the
moral is high and so are ambitions.

More h/a news a nasty little war between Thorland and the Roman Empire seems brewing with lots of attacks back and fourth. Right now it looks like the Romans have the edge over the Vikings in this contest. It looks like nukes are the weapon of choice with lots of them flying around and doing more damage than in previous rounds. On my favorite subject, the war between OTA and EE to be fair EE kicked me around pretty good as usual.

Strategy
By Homer SImpson
9-29-01
II'm not saying this strat is perfect, but it is good enough to get me into the top 10 in SA!
1) Set tax rate to 20% (Under Population)
2) Set resource production to:
Iron Ore: 35%
Wood: 20%
Natural Gas: 35%
Water: 10%
Every thing else: 0%
3) Set industrial Production to:
Drones: 10%
Battlements: 80%
Scouts: 10%
4) Sell all your coal on the market
5) Build 500 resource centres and 250 power plants
6) Spend the rest of your turns building factories, exploring for 1 turn as needed.
7) Log off!
The next few days will be spent in the following manner:
1) Sell all your battlements
2) Buy Tech... remember to save about $20million though!
3) Explore and build factories
4) Build 100 power stations as needed, after a couple of days you will need 500 more resource centres too.
Buy tech in the following order:
Manufacturing - 38k
Construction - 360k
Defence - 32k
Warfare - 32k
You may want to max the others while you are in this tech phase - if so ask for values needed.
And that's about it... from here switch some production to cruisers and start to landgrab etc, but you'll be sure to be near the top of the scores with maxed out tech :)
I expect to have ot make changes - even with the market changes earlier this round.
Mathematically doing a resource start-up may now be better, and I intend to work it out properly before the set starts.

Buildings
By Homer Simpson
9-29-01
An easy to use system for calculating how to gain the maximum % benefit from buildings.
Forts = 50 per 10 miles of land = 40% bonus in defence
Training = 50 per 10 miles of land = 60% bonus in spy ops
Hospital = 25 per 10 miles of land = 30% bonus in civilian casualty rate
Anti missile = 25 per 10 miles of land = 90% bonus in missile defence
Obviously to max in all these areas will only leave you with 100 spaces for other buildings, so choose well.

The long standing war between EE and OTA has picked up again in S/A and H/A. For the last several days attacks and covert operations between the two clans have been common place. It's hard to say who will come out on top but my own OTA accounts have taken a beating in H/A.

Attack on America
By CMI
9-15-01
It is often said by those who were lived through Pearl Harbor that they remember exactly where they were and what they were doing during that infamous day in history. Much the same can be said of each and every one of us who witnessed the
events of Tuesday the 11th. NBC anchor Tom Brokaw has dubbed the generation of Americans that lived through World War II, the "Greatest Generation". This past week, as all of America has come together in a show of unity, we have truly seen that the indomitable spirit and
unyielding resilience that got us through the second World War is alive and strong in this 21st century. From from the US Capitol to the ruscue efforts that continue in New York City and Washington DC, Americans have put aside their differences in a show of defiance against the terrorist attacks that
sought to strike fear into our hearts.
One thing that is for certain is that we will never look at the game of Conquest in the same way. Whether it is the use of spies to demolish an opponent's buildings, or the use of genocide attacks to murder's another country's civilians, we will inevitably draw parallels between Conquest and the events of this past week. Continue to enjoy the game of Conquest, but remember that it is just that, a game. A game cannot hope to accurately simulate the grief and suffering that such a tragedy as the bombings of the World Trade Centers and the Pentagon can cause, but
neither can it hope to recreate the coming together and solidarity that has come about as a result.
In the coming weeks, do what you can to show your support, for the friends and families of the victims of the bombings, for the rescue workers in NYC and DC, and for the men and women of our armed forces. A historian once said, out of all the forms of government, it is the democracies that field the largest, most courageous, and most patriotic armies...
