| Insurgency related statistics |
| The goal of this page This webpage is meant to be an information portal for people who are interested in some of the world's hotspots. Only a few of the worlds hotspots get coverage in the mainstream news, for instance such countries as Burundi, Colombia or Chechnya. This page will constantly be updated. Methodology Some people might have taken notice of governemt statistics of losses for their security forces, and that they sometimes don't add up with information that one can get through open news sources. As two examples can numbers presentet by the Iraqi government and Russian statistiics from Chechnya be mentioned as where official numbers don't seem to add up. The data that will be used here will cover news from the english-speaking press and official data as long as they don't seem too far-fetched. Battlefield losses presented for once enemies (no matter what kind of government in question) will never be presented because of such numbers are more often than not inflated. Because many armed clashes never get any news coverage, the numbers presented here must be viewed as minimum numbers. Conflict areas not covered here There are of course a huge amount of potentially hot conflict areas that might become active. Areas where there exist armed dissident groups but where the level of violance is quite low is among others eastern parts of Congo (Zaire), Myanmar, Indonesia and many, many others. |
