IOMP ACTIVITIES

The International Organization for Medical Physics (IOMP) has the objectives of organizing international cooperation in medical physics and allied subjects… (http://iomp.org).

There are two events in October 2000 in Bulgaria that will be accomplished under the auspices of IOMP. These are the following:

Workshop on 14 October 2000 in Sofia, Bulgaria

This event is included in the Scientific Programme of the 8th Conference of the BSBPE. The two lecturers from IOMP are Dr. Perry Sprawls, Co-Chairman of Awards and Honours Committee of IOMP and Dr. Slavik Tabakov, Chairman Education and Training Committee of IOMP. The topics of their lectures in the Workshop on 14 October 2000 in Sofia, Bulgaria are as follows:

  1. Introduction (Necessity of QA in Diagnostic Radiology);
  2. QA and Patient Doses (EurAtom 97/43)
  3. QA of X-ray Tube and Generator (Radiography)
  4. QA in Fluoroscopy Systems including Image Quality
  5. QA in Mammography (Risk, Image Quality, Assessment)
  6. QA in film processing

Topics 1 - 4 are lectures of Dr. Slavik Tabakov and topics 5 - 6 are lectures of Dr. Perry Sprawls. There are discussions on the topics immediately after the lectures during the Workshop and they are chaired in the same order respectively.

Contemporary Magnetic Resonance and Diagnostic Radiology Imaging

The second event is a training course for Medical Physicists, 9 - 11 October, 2000 in the Inter-University Medical Physics Centre (IUC), Plovdiv, Bulgaria where the invited speakers are the IOMP Officers: Dr. Perry Sprawls, Co-Chairman of Awards and Honours Committee of IOMP and Dr. Slavik Tabakov, Chairman Education and Training Committee of IOMP.

The course objectives are aiming to give knowledge on the basics of Contemporary Magnetic Resonance Imaging Equipment in a three-day programme with the following topics:

  1. Identify the Magnetic Resonance and Diagnostic Radiology Image Characteristics and Quality Requirements for effective diagnosis;
  2. Identify factors that should be considered in the selection of new MR and DR imaging equipment;
  3. Improve the knowledge on Safety in Contemporary MR and DR Imaging.

The Board of the Bulgarian Society of Biomedical Physics and Engineering acknowledges with pleasure its gratitude to the IOMP for offering co-operation in both initiatives.
