Hi Courtiers! I am *definitely* sending out all kinds
of positive thought waves to Coney tonight, and to the
whole team that they get him some runs!! :)

The court party sounds like a great idea (well, you know
I'm all into parties lately anyway, ha ha) - I know
there's no way I can get to KC, but perhaps I'll have to
send a surprise (I wonder how to ship cupcakes?!?) ;)

Laura - have fun at the M'Dome this weekend! Do you
have a scanner? If not, and you get free doubles, you
can send me your doubles and I'll scan and post them.
JP taught me how, so any excuse to practice! :) I'll
send you my real addy in a separate e-mail if you want
me to do them.

Let's all root hard for David and the boys tonight!! We
seem to be on a roll - let's keep it going and get Coney
a "W"!! :)

Take care - keep smiling...

Ally :)

Hey everyone...Well despite your good wishes and vibes, unfortunately our
David can't seem to find his way home...:( I am just so glad though that
great fans like you can stick by him through all of this, I know we all
hate to see him going through this, and I can't even bear to think what he
will tell the media this time. I am just really worried about him!! He
must feel so low right now, I can't even imagine, and if he could just get
*one* win, I'm sure that would be enough to pull him out of this hole!

Laura-- Again, I hope you have a nice trip to Minnesota, and I can't wait
to see your pictures!!! Also, thanks for the ESPN note--because of that I
got to watch that game! Didn't see Cone, though :( I am all for your KC
idea, (and your reasoning was cute, too! ;)) as of right now I'm
definitely planning on being there, and if any other courtiers are up for
it, maybe we can all meet up and make a sign together for him or
something...:) Surely by *September* he will have pulled himself out of
this, but I'm sure it's still nice to see the fans are behind you. :)
Ally I really wish you could come meet us! I have just always heard
fabulous things about you!

Jaycee-- I am glad you liked the biography!! Thank you for telling me so!
:)

The front page has been updated....

Thank you to you all-- you're the greatest David Cone/Yankee fans in the
world! Don't lose your faith!! :)

On the BRIGHT side (and I'm trying to think positive here...) he didn't give
up a HR in this game at least:)

That first inning was brutal though, I swear. And this game convinced me more
than ever that it was totally mental (with a little help from our old friend
ESPN -- what are we now there, 0-10?). Last time he only walked 2; tonight
he walked 5 and that's what did him in. I kept staring at his face after
every ball-- it was just painful. You could tell he really wanted it, but
when you're in a slump that's the expression most players have after every
pitch/hit. It's a mix of anxiousness and urgency overshadowed by frustration
-- when will this ever end? How much longer do I have? It's just
heartbreaking....

People all are screaming "put Cone out of his misery!" But I'm still hoping
maybe he'll put himself out of his own misery and one day out of the blue GET
that second win -- and then we'll see that old "fire" burn in him again (as
KC so aptly put it in her highly amusing bio --loved it, BTW!) . A hitting
streak, after all, starts with but a single hit....

Well there goes the winning streak.

With Mendoza and Hernandez due back soon who do you pull from the
rotation? Cone would be the one. They should designate him for
assignment to Tampa and let him work with Billy Connors (it seems to
have done wonders for Doc) for a few weeks. If he shows improvement
then put him in the pen for the rest of the season, if not, .....

I hope Joe takes him out of the rotation soon. This is not good for the
team. The way it is now we cannot get a long streak going and more
pressure is put on the other pitchers because of this.

I wonder if he is considering retirement. I think he should.

Cone remains determined to turn season around
July 30, 2000

TAMPA, Fla. (AP) -- David Cone remains determined to turn his season around.

``I'm not giving up,'' said the New York Yankees pitcher before his workout
Sunday at the team's player development center in Tampa Fla. ``I'm going to
find a way to pitch better and go out on my own terms.''

Cone was sent to work with longtime pitching coach Billy Connors by owner
George Steinbrenner after the right-hander dropped a career-worst eighth
straight decision in a 9-3 loss to the Minnesota Twins Thursday.

``I'm open to any suggestions,'' Cone said. ``I welcome the chance to work
with Billy and do anything I can to get something going here.''

Cone worked extensively on his mechanics during a 15-minute bullpen session
Saturday, an outing both team officials and the pitcher called encouraging.

``Billy has some great ideas,'' Cone said. ``It's just kind of back to
basics. Sometimes you get lost in what you're trying to do with your
mechanics. It's nice to get a fresh perspective.''

Yankees manager Joe Torre has not announced his long-term pitching plans, but
the possibility exists Cone could make his next start during an upcomimg
weekend series against the Seattle Mariners.

``That's all I'm thinking about ... short term right now,'' Cone said. ``I'm
going to be ready to pitch if they want to give me the ball.''

Cone, 1-10 with a 6.88 ERA, is winless in 14 starts since a victory Apr. 28
over the Toronto Blue Jays. The Yankees have lost each of his last 12 starts.

``It's disappointing, because I found myself in a position where I'm hurting
the team ... really holding the team back when everybody else is playing
well,'' Cone said. ``My day comes to pitch and we lose again.''

``That's the worst part of all. We don't win on days I pitch.''

Hello All

Thought I'd send you all some articles from the NY papers today regarding
our guy. I am not sending any vibes out to him( positve or orthewise) , as
the last few times I've done that he's gotten completely shelled.

Well, sorry it took so long to write. I survived my trip to Minnesota. It
was ok. The team took 2 of the 3 games we saw. There were TONS of Yankee
fans there, but no David:-(( I guess he left for Tampa after last
Thrusday's terrible outting. Let's hope- he got the help he needed with a
new attitiude on his pitching.

I did take pictures, even stayed at the same hotel as the guys (big mistake
though, cuz we never saw them and the hotel was crawling with fans). I have
lots of pictures of Paulie (my 2nd favorite), but it felt so strange w/out
seeing David in the dugout. I will let you all know if they turn out and
Ally, if I need to I might take you up on your offer to scan them for me.

Have a great day(and weekend)
Laura

Laura-- Thank you *so* much for the articles, as always! What would I do
without you? :) That first one made my eyes tear up, I hated to hear he
was so frustrated, but I am very glad and excited to hear he seems to be
doing better, and that he is looking forward to his start in NY! Connors
words were very consoling, I am glad that he and everyone else have so
much faith in David...I know he can still do this, I just know it!!!!!
Give 'em hell, Sweet David!!! ;)

Hmmm...so you sound a little less than excited about your Minn trip, but
it sounded like there were some highlights...I was actually wondering how
your trip went, I'm so glad you shared it with us. I'm still hoping to
do the KC thing, and if we can get some more "courtiers" to go, that would
be just *fabulous*!!

Thanks again for the articles!!!!

Subject: Today's game, 8/5...

http://www.geocities.com/coney36_nyy

Hello everyone...Well, I must say I have mixed emotions about today's
game. I think Cone pitched pretty well, but he didn't get that win and
you know that he isn't going to be happy unless he gets that. I was
listening to the game on the computer, and I heard John Sterling (at least
I *think* it was him, can't remember) talking about the long conversation
Torre was having with Cone after the 6th, and he said that Cone looked
like he had just lost his best friend. Ugh, that just made me so sad!! :(
I mean really if you could just take away the 3rd inning his performance
was a shutout! I mean yea he gave up scattered hits and kind of a lot of
walks, but he kept them from scoring runs and that's what it all really
boils down to. He kept the Yankees in that game, and after scoring 13
runs last night they just couldn't score at least 4 within the first 6
innings today. However you know David would say something like he had the
lead and he blew it...he just won't be happy until he starts winning, and
it makes me so *mad* because I know-- we *all* know-- that he is perfectly
capable of winning, and all the losses he has so far this season are not
his fault. Now ignorant people are going to go around and say that he is
finally done and he doesn't belong in the rotation anymore, but *duh* you
don't strike out *6* batters if you don't have the ability to pitch well
anymore, dangit!

On a lighter note, very cool that he passed the 2500 strikeout mark!! I
hope he can find some happiness in that at least....

Actually, KC, and for those of you who aren't from the NY area, I was
watching the postgame, and Cone seemed the most upbeat he'd ever been after a
game this year. He called his performance a "step in the right direction"
even though he recognized that his troubles weren't over yet. So maybe
there's hope. Funny, he pitched no better than he did at the forum game (he
gave up more walks today, even), and the Yankees almost won, and everyone
seemed to be in a so much more positive mood today. I think Jim Kaat was
saying today that he definitely had the stuff --he got 2 strikes on most of
the batters-- but he just wasn't confident enough in himself to throw that
finishing pitch (hence the 5 walks), even though the times he did, it was
clear that he could (he really only had one "bad" inning, and the HR was to
A-Rod, who NO ONE can get out!). What it all boils down to is that there IS
hope-- and maybe Coney's starting to come out of that mental funk he's been
in for way too long. AND it means he's earned another start, another chance.

Penguin-- Thank you so much for writing and telling us about the
postgame....I am very glad to hear he was so upbeat, he should be!!
Though he should have been happy last time and he was just *so* down on
himself, hence my worry of him being upset again despite his good outing.
But I'm pleased to hear he can see the light in all of the darkness now.
:) This *is* a step in the right direction, and I agree that maybe this
shows he is coming out of his mental funk. Actually I was hoping to
listen to the postgame stuff on the computer after the game, but it cut
off...*shucks*!!! However I did read a little ESPN recap of the game, and
he didn't sound down on himself at all like he has been in the past, and
he sounded very gracious about how the fans treated him today. I was very
happy to hear that they gave him a standing ovation as he went out there,
and I could just hear the crowd get behind him through every pitch. I
thought that was just so wonderful, and I'm sure that made him feel really
good. :)

I also agree that he may've lacked confidence and that's why he couldn't
get some of those guys out after going 2-0 with many of them...Let's hope
that turns around, too...I mean, it's so unlike Cone to not be confident
in himself!! :)

Subject: duh... Coney of course:-)

Good morning all

It's gonna be a crazy one this week at work, but hopefully I'll survive.
Thanks KC for updating the site- Minnesota was fun, but you were right I
guess I expected more. Not seeing Coney was depressing. My sis and I are
thinking of going to NY for the labor day weekend to see them play...
Minnesota again. Don't think I can do the KC games cuz they are in the
middle of the week:-((( I thought those games were over the Holiday
weekend!!!

Speaking of our hero.... ok don't be too upset, but I heard (form the NY
times) that he will be missing his upcoming start.
The NY Times reported that Torre decided to pull Coney out of the rotation
this week ONLY because he threw so many pitches during Saturday's
start(137). Torre had said David hadn't thrown that many pitches since the
1995 Division Series and they (him and Mel) wanted to meet w/David today to
discuss how his arm feels. That is the only reason, they are taking him out
of the rotation this week- It did not have to do with the way he pitched.
I just wanted to let everyone know in case you hear something different.
You know how things can be distorted on the website at times;-)

Since, I couldn't see Saturday's game (only pre and post show reports) I had
no idea what David and Torre were conversing about in the dugout, after he
was taken out of the game. I was told Joe had his arm around Coney and
they were talking for quite a while. After the game they asked Joe what was
discussed and he said "you'd have to ask David that"..... Does anyone know
what was said???? When they spoke to David in the clubhouse during the post
game interviews that subject was never brought up.

Ok all just wanted to fill you in on the latest.... the game is on right
now, so I think I am going to try to listen to it here at work.... think
I'll get fired???

Take care and have a great day
Laura

OK guys, Coney isn't the only one that's having some problems against this
pesky team. Carlos Guien (sp??) just hit a grand-slam (first one ever in

now coming in to relieve Denny.

I'll keep ya posted...only 5 runs needed to catch up....gulp:-(((

Laura-- As always thanks for your input! Dangit, I wish people would
hurry up and make up their minds on whether Cone is or is not pitching his
next start! I mean, I'd really like to see him in his next start, but if
Torre and Mel are really concerned about it due to the number of pitches
he threw on Saturday, then maybe it would be a good idea for him to rest.
I'd hate to see him go out there and get another loss because he never
fully rested up from his last start, and I'm sure that's what Joe and Mel
are thinking, too...I'm curious about Cone's thoughts on all of
this...Yes, I too would like to know what all was said in that long
conversation on Saturday! I was *so* happy though yesterday because I had
great timing *again* in flipping through the channels and catching
CNN/Headline News talking about Cone's start and then they showed a clip
of his post game interview. As penguin said, he did sound more upbeat
which is just fabulous! It was nice to see that bright, optimistic gleam
in his eyes once again! :)

Aww, that's a shame about the KC trip! I'm still hoping to go, if I'm in

I hope you have fun in NY though if you go!!
