Family of: Hans Jost Hite (Heydt - German spelling)
This lineage is based on material research by my grandfather. After several years of working on this, he was contacted by a distant cousin who was also researching the Hite family line. They compared notes and traced the family line back to the first Hites (Hans Jost Hite) who came from Germany.

Died: 1760-61 in Frederick Co., Virginia
Parents:??
Married: Anna Maria DuBois

Spouse's Parents: Louis DuBois and Catherine Blanchan
Jost Hite lived in Straburg, Alsace before coming to America in about 1710. He brought sixteen other families with him to Kingston, New York, on his own ship, "The Swift." His wife's mother, Catherine Blanchan, was the daughter of Matthew and Magdelena Jorisse Blanchan. They were Huguenot refugees who fled from France's religious oppression. They reportedly went to Mannheim, Germany, later embarking from there to America. Their daughter, Catherine was married in 1655. If that date is correct, then Catherine Blanchan and Louis DuBois were married when they arrived in America, possibly accompanying her parents to New York in 1660. Matthew Blanchan was credited with founding the town of Hurley, New York (possibly the present day New Hurley?).
Jost Hite and his wife Anna Maria DuBois moved to Germantown, Pennsylvania in about 1716 and stayed until 1732. Much of this information was obtained from "The American Compendium of Genealogy" and compiled for these notes by Kathrine Reynolds McGraw of Alabama in 1984.
Charles Smith, Sr. was an officer with the colonial forces and was with George Washington at "Great Meadows" when the defeat of British General Braddock occurred on July 9, 1755. Charles Smith, Sr. lost his left hand at "Great Meadows."
