Analysis
Always remember that the Analysis section deals
with the current system, you should not mention any applications package that
you intend to use at this stage.
Introduction
A brief description of the organisation
that you have chosen for your coursework. This should include the name of the
organisation, a brief description of what it does, where it is based, how many
people are employed / involved, how long it has been established, any awards or
competitions which the organisation has won and who your contact within the
organisation is, if possible.
Problem Specification
A description of how the
current system works.
First, you should describe the
whole system in general. You may use systems diagrams if this makes it easier.
Then identify which particular
segment of the system that you are going to develop, and describe it in as much
detail as possible.
Use requirements
A list of the people who will
use the system including a detailed description of what they will use it
for and justification of why that use is necessary.
Problems and
inefficiencies with the current system
A list of problems with an
explanation of why they are problems.
Input, processing and
output needs
Use the Problem Specification
and Use Requirements to help you decide exactly what output you will need from
your system. Then use those outputs to decide on the input that will be
necessary to produce that output. Finally, decide what processes will be
necessary to turn your input into your output. Will you need to perform
calculations, searches? Etc.
Information
Requirements
You have already defined the
input and output that you need. In this section you must describe where the
information will be collected (or from whom), how the information will be
collected (data collection forms?), describe the processes that will
be carried out, why those processes will be carried out, what the output will
be used for and how the output needs to be presented (hard copy, screen, etc).
