Miss Hunter & Professor Petrie at The Pump Rooms
|
On
the 11th of September 1897, Lord Brocket invited friends to his Cheltenham
residence. Saturday afternoon, the weather being fine, the party tasted
the waters at the pumprooms. They were generally agreed not to be
as pleasant as those in Buxton...
In the evening the party proceeded to the theater, the performance was one of Oscar Wilde's finest, “The Importance of being Ernest” a most amusing piece. Dinner was served
afterwards at Artie’s house with a special curry for the Major
and raj trifle. Artie and Mr. Pitt Rivers ritually “Mummified”
Gaston with assorted artifacts brought back from Egypt and two unusual
fans bought in London, these were recognized by Athena as belonging
to her friend Katherine, now strangely missing. |

the barrow was purchased on behalf of the government, Arties flat was
burgled and two fans were stolen. |
| That winter the young ladies went to Paris to see the collections, whilst there they went out for the day to the country, walking in the forest they were pursued by wolves, missed the stage coach back, stayed out all night and, finally, Athena was bitten by a bat ( not scratched by her broach pin at all) during the night. |
Gaston had adventures in America, including narrow escapes from red Indians, and met with a strange lady heavily veiled and clad all in black who told him wondrous stories. |

Christmas
and New Year 1897 Miss Athena invited the girls to Lochnaw for the festive season and a glorious time was had by all. The Reverend spent much time in the study of Enochian Script and sigils with the kind assistance of Miss Emerald and took tea with Dr. Richard Laurence; a man of healthy appetite who translated The Book of Enoch. |
