In
July 1897, Miss Agnew and Miss Rosetti went to stay with Maisie Packenham
and family, recently returned from America, at their new home, LittleDean
Hall, reputedly the most haunted house in Britain.
They discovered a secret passage which had the letters C and R carved
in a panel, and heard about the murder of Charles Pyrke in 1744
by his servant for misusing the boys sister |

Some
rooms in the house were ice cold, in the Rose room sounds of weeping
permeated and elsewhere the purring of a cat was heard. After
a night of keeping watch their only solid evidence of ghostly happenings
despite all manner of strange incidents, was a photograph of a young
man in C18th dress holding a cat, taken and developed in the cellars
by Miss Rosetti, which bore a startling resemblance to Athena's fiancée,
Gaston le Roux. |
