Little did Professor Petrie and Hilda think that they would meet so many acquaintances at the Iron Bridge Institute for Technology, when they were invited by Joshua Leyland, railway magnate to join him for a weekend.

At a secret meeting at the Lodge the Professor was given a papyrus discovered by Masons at a dig in Prussia, Hilda's help was enlisted for translation. It showed the objects used originally to banish Menecrath from the earth but made no mention of his return.

There were others at the Institute, Miss Blaide and Mr Grace Bankers from the City, dressed all in Black. Dr Staunton was already there, deep in discussion about improved rolling stock, and an outing on Saturday aboard Leyland's luxury Observation car gave everyone an ample opportunity to inspect them.

Athena arrived, on her way down from Lochnaw and was pleased to see her fathers friend, Mr Asquith MP. Asquith had a stretch of land which Leyland desired to purchase at any cost to further the Masonic Orders Rail Monopoly. There were however others who would stop at nothing to thwart these plans. Blackmail, threats and finally murder, appalled innocent bystanders.

Artie, sinisterly brainwashed, made an attempt on Leyland's life while bodyguard Dexter Manly did his best to protect his master, or did he? Another murderous attempt later in the evening succeeded. How will Evelyn Leyland ever know if Dexter loves her for herself or her inherited fortune?

Meanwhile Asquiths other guilty secret was bought back from Lawyer Greene, who attempted to translate Emily's German inheritance documents watched over by Brigadier Flashman.

Miss Montgomery left in the night, resigning from the Company. The Major was promoted, but Katherine was behaving oddly, showing concern for Artie and his muse…Finally Miss Blaide was arrested for the murder but more than one company members had an uneasy feeling justice was not done…and some one knows more than they're telling…
