The Charming Ladies of Miss Charlottes Academy

Miss Athena Agnew (b. 1876)

How excited we all were when Miss Agnew, youngest daughter of Sir Andrew and Lady Lochnaw, announced her engagement to Gaston le Roux earlier this month. After following in sisters Persephone and Daphne's footsteps at Miss Charlotte's Academy, Miss Athena came out earlier this year and has been noted in society for her wit, imagination and exquisite gowns!  While little brother Hector is safely tucked away at Oxford, pursuing, as his father before him, esteemed classical interests, we hope her imminent marriage will not discourage Miss Athena from her own intellectual pursuits, a little bird told us there may be a novel of the most “gothic” kind on its way...

Miss Elayne Rosetti (b.1872)

At only 26 Miss Elayne Rosetti has already stunned the art world.  The fact that she is the only child of Dante Gabrielle (1828-1882) shines through her every photograph.  Her father's obsession with all things mediaeval was not the link, nor was his love for the beautiful Elizabeth Siddal (1842-1872), it is the fanatical attention to detail, which Miss Elayne has inherited.  This  combined with a master's appreciation of light and texture (no doubt honed by a childhood spent with artists around Europe).  Her precocious artistic talents were developed at Miss Charlottes Academy for young ladies although her photography is all self taught!  Her themes she tells me are "truth and more truth" combining the desires of those pre-Raphaelite ancestors with a practical no nonsense view of the world which is all her own.  We hope to see many exciting exhibitions by Miss Rosetti in the future.

Miss Katherine Vinca Massini (b. 1875)

Miss Maisie Packenham (b.1875)

We are thrilled to announce the arrival from America of millionaires Mr. and Mrs. Packenham, who have taken up residence in Littledean hall (reputedly Britain's most haunted house!)  We are sure however no ghosts will disturb the sleep of their daughter the charming Maisie Packenham, already breaking hearts on both sides of the Atlantic.  Unlike her brother Bertie, (currently at Cambridge) Miss Packenham has completed her education at Miss Charlottes Academy and is regularly seen at society parties across the county.  She is reputedly an excellent shot and a keen sportswoman. We look forward to hearing of her further achievements.

Lady Louisa Tufton (b. 1884 - d.1900)

Lady Tufton was a shining example of modern woman and will be very sadly missed by her many friends. Louisa was always the center of a laughing, merry bunch of young people, who appreciated her warm sense of fun and adventure. I remember how excited she was at the thought of her coming out Ball, and how thoughtfull about the comfort of her guests.

Louisa was also devoted to her family and was frequently seen in the company of her adored brother Viscount Buffington. It was sadly on one of their trips to the seaside at Whitby that Louisa fell. A tradgedy indeed, and yet I feel, as all those who new her would, that as she fell she was also filled with excitement and anticipation for the life beyond, in which I have no doubt we shall all meet again.
