On
the 7th of August 1897, Professor Petrie invited friends and acquaintances
to join him for a picnic and outdoors performance of “The Water Babies”
at Newstead Abbey. A splendid repast was provided by the cooks
and a local cricket team proceeded to play on the green. After
the feast the party took a turn around the late Lord Byron's most beautiful
gardens.
The players were much admired and Lord Brocket was moved to write a few lines of verse which he later recited at the professors residence. |
|
| The professor told how his dig and experiments had been bizarrely disturbed at Hobhurst House Barrows, he suspected sabotage, and Athena told of the girls adventures at Little Dean Hall. |
