Welcome to Colors on the Wind Aviaries Our MissionTo help God preserve His most vibrant, beautifully colored little birds. The Lady Gouldian Finch AKA: the Rainbow Finch! How it all StartedColors on the Wind began quite unexpectedly in November of 2000 with a normal Lady Gouldian Hen and a yellow headed Cock. Three clutches and 9 babies later we were definitely hooked! Whoops! and Daisy had worked their magic on my roommate and I. We knew we couldn't stop with just one pair! We had to have more, and the search began! Between us, we currently have about 9 mating pairs of Lady Gouldians, multiple babies and the brood continues to grow! Though it's extremely heartbreaking to occasionally loose a baby here and there, it brings us great joy to watch them as they progress from hatching, through fledging, weaning and molting. By far, the biggest and best reward is getting to see them as adults, all dressed up in their absolutely stunning suits of multicolored feathers! There is much pleasure to be found in hand feeding the baby Goulds. It all started with an itty-bitty, naked baby that a friend had hatched through fostering Society finches and gave to us as a present. At hatching, Hiccup was about the size and color of a large pencil eraser. Oh my, she grew fast! About 3 and a half weeks later, Hiccup began performing her own personal rendition of a beep-beeping hummingbird (hovering at her cage door) whenever she thought it should be feeding time! And according to her, every time should be feeding time, thankyouverymuch!
