Finally an Update!!!
As of February 26th there is new info on Ecuadorian Crabs!

Our life with hermit crabs began quite serendipitously.  Katie, one of our friends, decided to study abroad in Russia for the fall semester of the 2001-2002 school year, leaving her boyfriend, Dan, and his roommate, John, to take care of her lone crab, Jasper.  As it began, Jasper lived in a small critter carrier and we grew quite fond of him.  Our fondness would soon become obsession...

At first, Jasper had only his toys to keep him company and we decided that he needed some playmates.  We were a bit wary though because Jasper had allegedly killed his previous two crabitat companions, Rocilia and Mendhi.  Would Jasper kill again?  We decided to give Jasper another chance at friendship.

After a quick trip to the local pet store, we brought Jasper home four new friends, Ahab, Gigantor, Cancer, and Stumpy.  In fact, we bought all of the hermit crabs living at this pet store in order to liberate them from their less than wonderful living conditions.  Thus far they have gotten along well with Jasper even though he is a little pushy at times.

Soon, more crabs joined the clan.  We discovered another local pet store and decided to have a look.  This yeilded even more crabs and we brought home another group including Sebastian, Godzilla, Miss Cleo, Nutmeg, Goliath, Barrabas, and Dr. Claw.  Unfortunatly, Barrabas and Dr. Claw were in somewhat poor health and died shortly after being brought home. With this growing group of crabs, we decided that more living space was necessary for the crabs.  Since Joan, John's girlfiend, had also decided that she wanted to keep crabs in her room, the clan was then split into two groups and each half now resides in a very spacious new crabitat.

Subsequently, Joan purchased two more crabs, Cocoa and Mocha, and surely more crabs will follow in both crabitats.  And now Dan and John now have another little guy, Tiny, and Joan got another crab, Hermes.
