This fairly new technology is controversial, and affects society in good and bad ways. For scientists, it brings hope and excitement. But it mostly forces people to revisit their morals; society must decide if stem cells are acceptable or not.
Proposition 71
Recently, California had to vote on a proposition that brought up the issue of funding stem cells, including embryonic stem cells. According to the LAO, the conditions included building a new state institute that would "...award grants and loans for stem cell research and research facilities." California ultimately voted for it. The impact of Proposition 71 has not yet been fully reached, but serves as an example of how stem cells affect society.

How do stem cells impact the economy?
Currently, funding for stem cell research is limited to mostley adult stem cells by the federal government. This has kept millions of dollars from being used to fund stem cell research.
In places like California, where stem cell research is funded by the state, millions of dollars are used to fund the technology.
Is this positive or negative?
Depends on a person's viewpoint of stem cells. Those for it clearly want to fund to it and have no problem using tax dollars.
Yet, the exact opposite can be said for those against stem cells.
