Safe shopping on the net

Shopping on the web should be safe, convenient and enjoyable bargain hunting but you should know how to get yourself out of a situation should it arise and prevent falling into the many pitfalls. I can't go through every eventuality here but I hope it helps you and eases any worries you may have of online shopping.

Check the site has a secure way of paying, it will have a closed padlock in the bottom of the browser window. Pay by credit card, if anything does go wrong you can clain against your card issuer if the purchase is between £100 and to £30,000, this is your legal right. Check with your issuer to see if you are covered for less than £100.If you buy overseas you may have to pay duty ! A visit to the custom and excise site may help ( www.hmce.gov.uk ). Another good site is the office of fair trading ( www.oft.gov.uk ), you'll find details of your rights there. If you do fall foul of the fraudsters report it immediately so their scam can be shut down.

Sites that are members of the Which? Web Trader Scheme or the TrustUK Scheme (which is government endorsed) will ensure your payments are secure and delivery dates adhered to. ( htpp://whichwebtrader.which.net )  ( www.trustuk.org.uk )

Happy Shopping

Don't take their word for it

PC World and other big retailers offer special deals on their webshops so it's worth checking them out before traipsing the high street. It's also worth noting that while the retailers don't charge double for a PC, there's plenty of instances where they do just that for consumables.

If you want my advice: shop around first and save yourself a fortune over the coming months and years. You could firstly try the Kelkoo link below to compare prices.

A couple of notes to add, In 1998 RRP Recommended Retail Pricing for electrical goods was made illegal so stores can sell for what they like although you won't know how much you've saved because there won't be that RRP price to go by. Secondly buying stateside can be cheaper but there's shipping to take into account and also the lack of support and warranty.
