Close match produces win for CCAFC D Team Aunty Gherkin The last match of term saw the first win of the season for Collingwood football's persistent D Team, as after 90 suspense-filled minutes they managed to achieve a convincing 3-2 win against their opponents. "It was definitely one of the closest matches we've had," remarks team captain Andrew Curry. "I thought we were going to go down in the first half: our defence wasn't up to much, but at the end of the day, it's a game of two halves and we played much better after half time. We were up against some tough opposition, but in my opinion the best team definitely won in the end." The first goal came 20 minutes into the first half with a clumsy header from Phil Adams. However, the defining moment in the game was during the second half when striker Alex Currie managed to equalise by skilfully putting the ball over the head of the opposing team's keeper and into the net. "Yeah, kiss my ass Beckham!" the promising young star was heard to shout. He followed this up with a second goal 10 minutes later while the goalkeeper appeared to be napping. After a poor season, Curry sees this as the turning point in the team's career. "We've had a lot of bad luck lately, but we played well in this match and certainly deserved to win. It's given us more confidence for the future, and I think things are going to be very different from now on." When asked to comment on the match, opposing team captain Billy Johnson remarked that his opponents were all "nasty poo poo heads" before bursting into tears and being taken away by his mother to have his dinner. The St Andrews Primary School football team are reported to be "mortified" by their defeat. |
