The Collingwood Gherkin was created as a tribute to the now defunct Durham Shallot, a satirical website focusing on life at Durham university, which was itself based on an American site, The Onion. The Gherkin concentrates specifically on life in one Durham college, Collingwood, so if you do not attend Durham or Collingwood this site will not make much sense to you. If you do and are interested in writing for The Gherkin or have any feedback about the site, you can email us using the link above. No personal email addresses have been given, as like The Shallot before us we the editors like to shroud ourselves with an air of mystery by remaining anonymous.

If anyone's interested, the reason we are called The Gherkin rather than staying within the onion family is because I couldn't draw a chive.

NEW EDITORS SOUGHT! Having left Durham, we at The Gherkin have laid down our pens and wandered off to pastures new. But if there are any Collingwood students out there who stumble across this site and feel they would like to revive it with a bit more Collingwood-based satire (fun! Great CV filler! Free booze! Well ok, maybe not the last one), just email the address above. If you fancy the writing but don't know anything about websites, by the way, I'm happy to continue to maintain the web side of things and upload the articles.
